Christina and Shane – a Boston wedding on the water

A lot of the couples that we meet with often ask us who we would hire to photograph our wedding if we could do it all again. That’s such a great question because it’s true that it would be such a hard decision for us to make. As professional photographers, hiring another professional photographer would be really hard! Which is why we were so honored and humbled that Christina and Shane asked us to photograph their wedding. Christina is a very accomplished professional photographer herself and she knew exactly what she wanted for her own wedding photos. So to say that we feel incredibly humbled and honored that they wanted to work with us is a complete understatement!

Everything about Christina and Shane’s wedding day was chic and classy. From Christina’s gorgeous gown to the orchids in her hair, to the pinstriped morning coat that Shane wore. It was just perfect! They both started their day by getting ready at one our favorite hotels in Boston, The Liberty Hotel. The Liberty Hotel is a dog-friendly hotel, too, which meant that their adorable little black lab was able to spend the morning with them before being picked up for a luxe day at doggy day care! Christina and Shane got ready in adjoining suites which was so much fun as everyone passed between the two rooms all the while making sure that Christina and Shane wouldn’t see each other. They did do a lot of chatting through the door, though!

Christina’s hair and makeup were perfect! She booked such fabulously talented artists and they did a beautiful job. Rebecca Woodfork styled her hair and her makeup artist was Claudia Moriel:

Everyone traveled separately to the church with the men arriving first to wait for all of the guests:

Then followed an absolutely gorgeous ceremony at the very grand St. Mary’s Church in Charlestown. The generally unassuming exterior really doesn’t prepare you for the stunning architecture inside. The ceilings are so ornate and detailed and the stained glass windows just stunning. Seeing Christina walk down that long aisle on her dad’s arm in that setting was just spectacular!

After the ceremony, there was just no containing the excitement that Christina and Shane were feeling as they exited the church to a huge bubble send off!!

Their reception was then held at one of the few hidden gems in the city – the Courageous Sailing Center in Charlestown. It’s located right on the water and provides completely stunning unobstructed views of both the Zakim Bridge and the most photographed part of Boston’s Skyline facing Rowes Wharf. You can only imagine how amazing the view was as the sun began to set and the skyline just lit up in front of you. Before the reception began, though, we took some time for a portrait session at a local park overlooking the Charlestown Navy Yard. We had to dodge a few raindrops from a visiting Hurricane Hanna, but thankfully the heavy rain held off until we had just entered the tent for the reception. It was great timing! Here were so of our favorites from their portrait session:

Christina and Shane hired a beautiful vintage Rolls Royce to travel around in, and we wanted to take advantage and capture some great images with it. Just then, one of their guests passed us with a really fun umbrella and we convinced them to let us borrow it for such a few moments (thanks again!!):

Once safely inside, the reception was soon under way with an awesome band, Urban Renewal. It was our first time at a wedding with them and we loved every second of it. Another very cool part of their reception was that the dinner was being catered by Boston’s own celebrity chef, Lydia Shire. Rene and I are huge fans of Lydia Shire and have always loved her restaurants here in Boston. It was so cool to see her working her magic at Christina and Shane’s wedding!

The evening began with some very beautiful and emotional toasts from both of Christina and Shane’s fathers as well as their best men and here, Christina’s maid of honor:

Before we left for the evening, we couldn’t resist sneaking outside again with Christina and Shane for a mini night session with them. The rain had stopped and the sky – and skyline – were just brilliant.

It truly means the world to us that you trusted us with your most important day and memories, Christina and Shane! You are such a beautiful couple and we loved being there with you so much!
