Michelle and Mike a/k/a our “surfer couple”

We can’t wait to share this week’s couple with you! We met Michelle and Mike last fall in a café inside Barnes and Noble. We had so much fun chatting with them – and we talked about everything from how they met to their love for surfing. As a matter for fact, from that moment on they will always be our “surfer couple”. These guys love the outdoors and are always doing something fun. Well, we hadn’t even left the parking lot of Barnes and Noble that afternon when I receiveda call on our cell phone from Michelle and Mike wanting to book us for their wedding. We knew right away we wanted to photograph their wedding and we were so tickled to know they felt the same way!

They had their ceremony and their reception at the White Cliffs Country in Plymouth, MA. It’s absolutely gorgeous. They had their ceremony outside on a cliff overlooking the ocean and their reception was inside a beautifully decorated tent. Rene started at their home in Harwich, though, with Mike and the guys. And I started at Michelle’s parents’ home where all of the girls were getting ready. Michelle’s mom and dad were absolutely bursting with pride the entire time. Almost every image I have of them from that afternoon is of the two of them just staring and smiling at Michelle. It just made my heart melt! As a matter of fact, here’s an image that I got when Michelle was putting her dress on. Her mom came up the stairs just as her girls starting tucking her in and you can just see her mom start to lose it as she turned the corner:

Once Michelle was actully in the dress, though, her mom starting worry about the wrinkles in her train. You know how moms are always able to solve any problem no matter how impossible they may seem? Well, the fact that Michelle was IN the dress was not going to stop her mom from solving the problem of wrinkles in her train. This just cracked me up:

Now here’s something else that you don’t hear about everyday. As if they didn’t have enough excitement to deal with already, Michelle actually broke her foot THREE weeks before the wedding!! Can you imagine? She was in a cast for all of the remaining weeks before the wedding and suddenly had to try to find shoes that would accomodate her swollen foot. And don’t you know – she didn’t even have a cast on the entire day of her wedding. She had very comfortable shoes on and was very careful but she still insisted on dancing all night long! Not only that but she and Mike made the trek down a very sleep incline after the ceremony so we could go on the beach for some photos with them! It was a very slow and careful trip down, but she did great. Mike and Rene did offer to (gently) toss her over their shoulders and carry her down but she decided against that option. Anyways, here are only some of the images we were able to get there! It was so hard to choose, so I’m going to post a few:

And here’s one more image that has a lot of meaning behind it. Michelle’s sister is no longer with us and after she passed away, Michelle had a set of wings tattooed to her back. Michelle wanted to find a way to incorporate her sister’s memory into the wedding and so she specifically chose to wear a strapless dress that would show her back so that everyone could see her wings and remember her sister as well.

It was so wonderful for us to finally meet their families as well. Both Michelle and Mike’s family are so sweet and made us feel as though we were old friends. It was such an honor for us to be at their wedding and we can’t wait for them to see the rest of the images from their incredible wedding!

Mich & Mike - Dear Rene & Melissa,
We had such a wonderful time with you at our wedding. The photos you took truly captured the essence of our day. Thank you for making our photo sessions so fun, but also relaxing! If you guys ever want to try surfing…we have plenty of boards in our basement. Do you have a waterproof camera? :)
Thanks again for everything! You guys are the best!
Hugs,
M&M
