Jenny and Matt

The first thing I think of when I think of Jenny and Matt is the wise old saying, “Looks can be deceiving.” We first met Jenny and Matt quite some time before their wedding this summer. Jenny is this beautiful, petite and very soft spoken breath of fresh air and you instinctively want to just protect her from anyone and anything that could possibly harm her. When I say looks are deceiving, though, it’s because in the months that I’ve gotten to know her, I quickly realized that Jenny is actually one of strongest women I know – she’s intellectually brilliant, can think quickly on her feet and she is not someone who can be pushed around. When they say good things come in small packages? That’s Jenny…to a T!

Jenny and Matt had such a beautiful day for their wedding and one of the moments that we were most excited about was when Jenny and Matt would see each other privately before the ceremony. They were both so nervous and so excited. Jenny practically raced out of her suite as soon as she was ready so we could go meet Matt and Rene. None of us could wait! And that moment definitely lived up to every expectation we all had:

Because Jenny and Matt were having their ceremony and reception at the Boston Seaport Hotel, we were able to schedule some time after their meeting so that we could walk around the entire outdoor area along the harbor for their portrait session. It was a perfect day, with the breeze blowing (perfect for a veil!) and the sun shining. Add one beautiful couple in love and you have every photographer’s dream:

As with all Jewish ceremonies, Jenny and Matt had a beautiful kettubah signing just before the start of their ceremony. The Kettubah itself was exquisite and detailed. But my absolute favorite moment was when the rabbi was reading the kettubah aloud for family and friends. Jenny and Matt’s faces truly say it all….this is what really matters:

I knew the moment we walked into their reception that I would be posting a lot of images showing off the details that Jenny had spent so much time on. Everything was so perfect from the centerpieces designed by Lotus Designs:

To the homemade cookies that were baked using Jenny’s grandmother’s own recipe:

This was a wedding that blended new love with time honored traditions and did it all in beautifully elegant way….the perfect reflection of Jenny and Matt.

Thomas and Jack

It’s been over a year since you’ve seen little man Jack on our blog! And you’re going to be just as shocked as we were at how big he grew. Jack’s family scheduled a new session in the studio so we could see the now very tall Jack and also meet his new baby brother, Thomas! I tried to spend much of the session convincing their mom and dad to have more babies….Jack and Thomas are so adorable and so HAPPY all the time that I think a few more of them in the world would be very nice indeed! :)

Although Jack is much taller, was able to run around the studio this time and a lot more on top of his head….his beautiful toothy grin still hadn’t changed:

And we got to meet baby Thomas who is the same age that Jack was the last time we got together. I love this age!

The next time we see Thomas he’ll be running around the studio, too, and we’ll have two big boys to chase around. Good thing I have long legs and can keep up! Can’t wait to see these guys again very soon….

January 3, 2010 - 8:31 am Carol Lundeen - Nice expressions and sharp eyes - the parents must be thrilled!

Jodi and Kate

We had the incredible honor of being able to photograph that special moment with Jodi and Kate finally exchanged vows while standing among their friends and family. There was not a dry eye anywhere at the ceremony….including mine. I rarely find myself getting emotional to the point of shedding tears at a wedding because it’s quite important that I can *see* as I photograph these gorgeous moments. But I couldn’t help myself as I saw both Jodi and Kate break down when they exchanged some of the most heartfelt vows I’ve ever been honored to witness.

But let’s start from the beginning of their day….when they both first arrived at the beautiful Langham Hotel in Boston. As we normally do, Rene and I separated and were able to spend time with each of the girls as they got ready. I spent the early afternoon with Jodi, her mom, her sister and closest friends in a grand suite on one of the top floors of the hotel:

Kate and Jodi love Gerbera daises (which also happen to be one of my favorites, too), and they incorporated them into their wedding. I especially love their bright colors and tall stems. They just always look so happy, don’t they?

T011_8109

Meanwhile, Rene was upstairs with Kate as she got ready and then stopped over to her grandfather’s room to make sure he was ready to go. Kate’s grandfather arrived in Boston less than 2 hours before the ceremony began because of delayed flights and re-routed planes. He didn’t get any sleep the night before just trying to get to Boston – and it was obvious nothing was going to stop him!

T044_8109

Jodi and Kate decided to see each other before the ceremony and spend a few quiet moments alone and Rene and I were there to capture every beautiful moment:

Post Office square is always a favorite location for formal portraits and we had such a blast because – as we soon found out – Kate and Jodi’s friends have the same great sense of humor that they do.

We then made our way together to their ceremony being held at the beautiful Wintergarden at the Seaport World Trade Center. The first thing that captures your attention as you walk in the Wintergarden is the big beautiful circular staircase rising up to the glass ceiling. And it was the perfect setting for the moment when Jodi and Kate walked down the aisle. Kate walked down the grand staircase first, then turned and waited at the very bottom for Jodi to join her, and together they made their way down the aisle together:

After an incredibly emotional ceremony – including those gorgeous vows I mentioned at the beginning – we spent even more time with Kate and Jodi for their personal portrait session. The day was beautiful and they were so happy. Happy isn’t even the right word….it’s not even close. It was just so perfect to be able to document how they were feeling:

And because they’re cool like this…..we took pedi cabs back to the reception!! It was hysterical how many people beeped and cheered and waved as we rode on by. Who can resist a beautiful wedding with a gorgeous couple?

Kate and Jodi’s wedding was so special to us in so many ways. We’ve gotten to know them so well and are so grateful they allowed us in their lives, their wedding and that we now have a great friendship together. Love you both….

November 21, 2009 - 3:59 pm Jodi Schulinn - You both made the day that much more wonderful! Thank you for all of your help, support, professionalism, and friendship. We love seeing our wedding day on your blog!! The photos you took are stunning. The first of many best days of our lives. -Jodi

And where have you been??

Yes, I know! The blog entries were coming faster than anyone could read them and then suddenly *poof*….. they disappeared! I come to you with my head in my heads begging for mercy. ;) The number of emails that I received and all of the notes on Facebook and Twitter asking what happened to our blog posts have definitely made us feel so very loved. But I also know that I have been very, very bad at keeping everyone updated on our happenings here at the studio!

The truth is – we’ve been so busy with portrait sessions and weddings that Rene and I barely had time to exchange high fives as we walked past each other in the morning. (Well, maybe not so much a high-five. It might have been slightly more romantic than that….). But the great news is that I’m about to hit everyone with some incredibly fun sessions and gorgeous weddings again. We have so many to share and so I hope you’re prepared for the awesomeness coming your way. We’ve had some pretty spectacular weddings this summer and we’re so excited to share them! We’ll sprinkle in some family sessions – including some familiar faces from past blog entries and we’re looking forward to reading your thoughts on them as they’re posted. Don’t be shy! Be sure to leave us some love and we’ll be sure return it!
–Melissa

November 17, 2009 - 4:40 pm tiradophoto - I'm back, Tara! You are definitely always one of my chief motivators/cheerleaders....amazing how you can do that all the way from across the country! :) Big hugs and kisses to you, your funny man and Sebastian!!

November 17, 2009 - 4:01 pm Tara Sengamalay - I was seriously starting to wonder what was going on there Melissa. I was in photo blog withdrawal without seeing your gorgeous work.

Alaina and John – a Boston engagement session

So Alaina and John will be getting married next March and since the booked us several months ago, they literally got to choose from every possible season here in Boston for their engagement session. They opted for a summer session, but with a fun twist. They brought two outfits and we began at the same hotel they will be having their reception, the beautiful Park Plaza Hotel in downtown Boston.

Our engagement sessions are really casual and we generally don’t find one spot for our sessions. The best we can usually do is pick a starting point for our sessions and then make no promises for where we’ll end up. :)

So we picked a starting location in downtown Boston to met Alaina and John and even before we made our way to the Park Plaza, we had to stop along the way, including for this gorgeous portrait of a breathtaking Alaina (*love* that dress, girl!!):

T001_8609

From there, we just walked everywhere (with Alaina in heels!) and got some amazing images and had a TON of fun together. Here are some of our favorites:

We’re working on some Save the Date cards for them right now and counting the months until the wedding! We can’t wait to see you guys again very soon….

Images for a Cure | Helps us support a great cause!

It’s amazing what you can accomplish when you get a group of people together who are motivated to really make a difference. Several weeks ago, Kristen Weaver, a fellow photographer based in Florida decided that she’d like to do more to raise money for breast cancer research. This is an issue that is very close to so many of our hearts and Kristen felt the same way. So she reached out to the amazing network photographers that we have here in North America and within a few weeks, Images for a Cure, was born.

This fall, countless photographers and artists are coming together for one purpose: a cure. On October 11, 2009 – a collection of photographers are donating their time and session fees to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation®. The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® is actively searching for a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime – and your portrait session will help the cause. We will be opening our studio on October 11th and offering mini-sessions all day long. The best part?? 100% of your session fee will be donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation®.

We are so honored to be participating in this great nationwide event. We will be offering mini sessions on Sunday the 11th for $150 each. These mini sessions are perfect for family photos, holiday photos or cards, engagement sessions or just because. Please contact us at info@tiradophotography.com if you are interested in booking your session. Book soon as only a limited number of sessions are available.

Together, let’s make a difference and do our part to help find a cure while having a some fun creating something just for you.
