Audrey and Chase

A couple of weeks ago, the door to our studio opened and all we could see over the half wall at our entrance was a little tiny head of bouncy blonde curls. Ah yes… we were expecting the blonde curls and they were right on time. Attached to the adorable blonde bouncy curls was an equally bouncy little girl named Audrey who is all full of sunshine and personality.

This was our yearly portrait session with Audrey, but this time there was a new addition – she brought along her new baby brother, Chase. We had a fabulous afternoon playing together in the studio and getting some great portraits for mom and dad at the same time. We couldn’t wait to share so here they are!

One thing that was so funny when we going through these images. We realized just how much Audrey reminds us of her mom, Kristin. We’ve known Kristin and Charlie for almost 6 years now (has it really been that long?!?). We photographed their wedding and it’s so much fun for us to watch their family grow. But when we were editing the images from our latest session, I kept hearing Rene say, “Audrey has the SAME expressions as Kristin!” I love it!

Audrey has such a fun personality and there’s no hiding how she feels at any given time. And so we proudly present to you….the many expressive faces of Audrey.

And now the very latest addition to the Dennison family! Chase is an amazing baby – so tiny and perfect. On top of that, he is such a mellow and happy little guy – he was so patient and let us do whatever we wanted:

There’s nothing like a big sister hug:

t046_61009

This next image cracked me up. Chase and Audrey were sitting next to each other, very quietly and mellow-like. When all of a sudden, Audrey let out a happy screech from the very top of her lungs. We all jumped about 3 miles and then burst out laughing, but what cracks me up now, is Chase’s reaction. Kristin (their mom) reports that Chase is now so used to Audrey excitement that he doesn’t even flinch anymore.

t050_61009

We had such a blast with Chase and Audrey and it was so amazing to finally meet Chase in person. Kristin reports that everyone promptly fell into an exhausted sleep after our session. :) Congratulations again, Kristin and Charlie, on your newly expanded beautiful family! We’ll be getting together with Audrey and Chase again in August, but this time with their mom and dad for a full family session and we can’t wait to see them again!

Jennifer and Jared

Jen and Jared have just arrived home after spending their honeymoon in Aruba, so what a perfect time to share the highlights from their wedding! Their ceremony and reception were held at the Spring Valley Country Club in Sharon, MA. It was a gorgeous sunny day which meant that we were able to take advantage of the perfect grounds for their formals. That’s one of the great things about having a wedding at a country club – they’re so particular about their grounds and so they are almost always pristine!

The afternoon started with Jen and Jared getting ready, though. I met Jen at the country club which already has a really beautiful bridal room – it had all this light pouring in and wide open spaces. It was a hive of activity when I arrived as the girls were getting ready and Jen was having her makeup applied by Brea Cherna of Makeup by Brea. Meanwhile, Rene met the boys who were a little less…..hurried.

t0042_6609

t0045_6609

Another highlight for us was when Jen and Jared opted to see each other before the ceremony. Almost all of our couples last year and this year are choosing to do this and it has given us the opportunity to photograph some beautifully emotional moments. I’ve been posting them here on the blog so we can share them since we love those moments so much! Jen and Jared’s first meeting was everything they hoped it would be. They were by themselves as Jen made her way to see Jared…

t0112_6609

And Jared’s reaction once he saw Jen for the first time:

t0117_6609

t0132_6609

We then spent some time having fun with their family and wedding party as well. It was great to be outside in the sun!

t0206_6609

t0238_6609

We all then went inside for a private ketubah signing. It was held in the bridal suite which was absolutely perfect and it meant that all of their family could surround Jared and Jen as they signed the ketubah together. I love Jen and her gorgeous personality so much – here she is taking a deep breath before signing her name to the contract:

t0255_6609

t0258_6609

One thing that Jen and Jared had asked us to do for them was to arrange for a quick night session with them once the sun went down. It only took about 5 or 10 minutes and it produced some of our favorite images – they rocked it!

t0617_6609

We spent an incredible day with them, laughing and really enjoying every second. That was one of the best parts of documenting their wedding….Jen and Jared truly wanted to enjoy every second to the fullest. It was perfect and we’re so happy that we were there with them!

A New York wedding for Delizabeth and Barney

So we’ve known Delizabeth for years now. We met her soon after we got married and have been very close every since. Delizabeth, or “Dee” to her close family and friends, moved to Connecticut several years ago, but that never stopped her from staying in touch with us. Dee is the kind of friend that remembers every important date, calls you just to say “hello” and always listens when you have something to say.

So when Delizabeth met Barney and their relationship began to get serious, she actually called us up to ask if we’d photograph her wedding and we couldn’t say “yes” quickly enough. We asked her what day they were planning on getting married and that’s when she told us that *ahem* she wasn’t exactly engaged just yet. :) But they had been talking about it and Dee wanted to be sure that they booked us before our year was booked up. You HAVE to love clients like that!!

So Dee and Barney were planning a small ceremony in New York and needed us to cover their ceremony and portrait session. So we made our way to Patterson, NY on a recent Sunday morning and met Barney nice and early to scope out some great locations for their portrait sessions. Dee and Barney were hoping to meet each other at a beautiful state park nearby, but after a week of rain in that area, the entire park was flooded out and the ground was a little soft and muddy. Not exactly ideal for a beautiful white gown! So instead, we found a new location and helped arrange a private meeting between Dee and Barney. We absolutely LOVE when couples decide to see each other before the ceremony. It’s such a beautifully emotional moment and it’s wonderful for our couples to be able to enjoy it privately while Rene and I capture it from further away. Here’s how the scene unfolded with Dee and Barney…

Barney and Rene waited for Dee and I to arrive and finally, Barney could hear Dee’s footsteps on the path behind him:

t0006_51709

t0011_51709

And the honest, unprompted, completely beautiful reaction….

t0026_51709

t0038_51709

After spending a few minutes together, we began to walk towards the location we had picked out earlier for portraits. Dee and Barney scheduled nearly two hours for their own portraits and for their family and wedding party portraits as well and it really meant that we were able to have fun together and let everyone relax and enjoy their time alone together. We began with Dee and Barney’s personal portrait session and had an amazing time together! They are so beautiful and comfortable with each other and trusted us completely – it made it so much fun to photograph them:

t0043_51709

t0059_51709

While taking that last photo, I looked over Rene’s shoulder and realized that their families were spying on us! I made sure to preserve the evidence to be used at a later date, no doubt. ;)

t0065_51709

On to another location…with no windows?

t0077_51709

t0079_51709

t0088_51709

We’ve known Dee’s family for years as well and being able to photograph their great relationship together was very special for us. And after meeting Barney’s family, we quickly fell in love with them, too:

And because time flies when you’re having fun, we soon found ourselves quickly making our way to the ceremony – right on time. I loved this image of Dee running up the stairs to make it on time…

Dee and Barney, you are such a beautiful couple and it was such an honor for us to be there with you all the way in New York. We can’t wait to see all of the wonderful things you accomplish together!

Kate and Jesse’s engagement session

Kate and Jesse have had a pretty hectic few months!! They are now on their third (and final!) wedding date after running into logistical issues with the first two dates they picked out and they are well on their way with all of the details for their November wedding!

Once they knew their date and venue was set in stone they could breathe a little more easily and they thought it would be the perfect time to start thinking about their engagement session. We were so excited about photographing them because we know Kate and Jesse from Lauren and Brian’s wedding almost two years ago and we had such a blast together.

So we picked a date for Kate and Jesse to come into the studio and one of the first things Kate announced when she walked in was just how nervous she was. :) She told us how worried she was that she wouldn’t be able to look good in any of the photos because she was so nervous. But I’ll tell you what…we’ve never, ever found anyone that hasn’t been able to relax, have fun and look amazing at a portrait session. Sometimes it might take a little longer for some people to warm up and be comfortable in front of the camera, but that little switch in your hed always clicks over. And what’s even more hysterical is that Kate and Jesse ROCKED the session. We all took our time and laughed and joked around and you would seriously never know for a second that Kate was ever nervous. Jesse also looks like he just stepped out of Men’s Vogue and so between the two of them, we had such a blast photographing them. Here’s a sneak peek at our session!

Just a completely random side thought. And maybe because I’m trying really hard to get back into a workout routine… But how amazingly toned are Kate’s arms?? They look fabulous:

Only five more months until we get to have fun again at their wedding!! We are so unbelievably excited and can’t wait to see you guys again soon!

Toni and Steve at the Fairmont Copley Hotel

Toni and Steve are already back from their honeymoon, so I’m a little behind in telling you about their story!! They had a Boston wedding from beginning to end which only seemed appropriate since they actually live right in the North End. One of the things that I love the most about Toni and Steve is their “everything is going to be okay” demeanor. It’s pretty awesome, actually, and definitely seems to keep everyone and everything around them in that same mentality. As a matter of fact, their nickname for themselves is “The Slowskys” after the famous turtles in the Comcast commercial. It’s so hilariously on point and I love it! I think you’re also going to love the incredible day they put together for themselves, too. There’s a lot of images in today’s post so I could try and give you a glimpse of how very cool it all was:

So our day began with some getting ready photos. Rene was with Steve and his groomsmen while they were getting ready at their apartment in the North End. And it’s also where he caught the very last minute adjustments before heading out for the ceremony:

t0083_52309

Because the church where the ceremony would be held is also located right in Boston’s historic North End, there was no point in hiring transportation – they just walked the few blocks to get there:

t0101_52309

And arriving at beautiful St. Leonard’s church, greeting some guests:

t0103_52309

Meanwhile, just a few streets away – also in the North End – at Toni’s parents gorgeous condo overlooking the harbor, we were having a little fun of our own. Toni’s parents have worked so hard to create such a beautiful and warm home and each room was decorated so beautifully. A photographer’s dream, really. :) And we made sure to have some fun with it. Here’s some details of Toni’s amazing gown and veil that matching the detailing on her dress perfectly:

t0140_52309

t0144_52309

t0150_52309

St. Leonard’s church is absolutely gorgeous and is an historic landmark in the North End with lots of visitors and tourists making their way through it each and every day. As Toni and her dad walked down the aisle, it was pretty hard not to be in awe of how beautiful everything was around us:

t0201_52309

And here’s the very moment that Steve saw Toni for the first time as she stepped through the doors. It looks like everyone was looking forward to seeing Steve’s reaction… :)

t0194_52309

After a beautiful ceremony, we made a quick trip to the Christopher Columbus waterfront park for some family photos together before we made our way back for Toni and Steve’s cocktail hour and reception at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel.

We walked into the ballroom and couldn’t get enough of all of the details that were everywhere around us. The ballroom at the Fairmont Copley Plaza is so ornate and beautifully decorated, that you could honestly get away with not adding much more in the way of details. But Toni and Steve found the best details to complement the decor. It was truly and honestly breathtaking:

t0406_52309

They also surprised everyone with a perfectly choreographed first dance which looked great. It really got the crowd going and their guests cheered with every turn, dip and “ta-da”. It was so awesome!

t0452_52309

t0459_52309

t0461_52309

It was the perfect kick-off to an evening filled with lots of dancing and fun. The band that Toni and Steve chose was Night Shift – absolutely one of the best bands in Boston for sure. We’ve worked with these guys so many times, and we’ve loved every single wedding. I fall in love with them every time we hear them perform. I wasn’t the only one, either. When Ray, of the lead singers, came out onto the dance floor to serenade some guests, there more than a few of us girls that swooned…

t0665_52309

What an amazing day from beginning to end! We’re just getting started on Toni and Steve’s album now and we’re so excited about putting something special together for them!

Spotlight on Rene: A recent fashion ad shoot

As a girly-girl, there are certain parts of a wedding that I’ll never stop loving. Like casting my eyes for the first time on the glorious shoes some of our brides have picked out. Or the amazing designer gowns that have been custom fit just for them. I’m not ashamed to admit that I completely live vicariously through some of our brides. Then there’s the girly part of even getting ready…having your hair styled and perfected. And even better…sitting in a chair while a professional applies your own makeup. I mean, how many times in your life do you get to feel like a rockstar that isn’t even allowed to apply her own mascara?? And there’s no doubt, it definitely makes a difference to the final look when a professional is involved. On top of that, it adds to the feeling that you’re up to something special that day. If you’ve never had a professional makeup artist give you a complete look, you are so missing out. I’ve had the honor a few times while on photo shoots and you walk away *knowing* you look hot. It’s pretty cool!

Katrina Hess (her website is here) is an incredibly talented makeup artist in Boston who is in super high demand. For really good reason, too…her work is so beautiful. Katrina has not only worked on many of our brides on their wedding day – I’m a past client, too. (Insert crazy info-mercial music here! :) ) So I can personally say that she is one of the best here in Boston. She won the Best of Boston award several years in a row and has been featured in tons of magazines and local television interviews.

Recently, Katrina contacted us about working together on creating a new ad campaign for her, and we couldn’t wait to get started. Rene has a passion for fashion and commercial work and he rocked it yet again…in that strong, mellow way that we all know and love. Katrina booked a model and then began creating different looks that Rene would photograph for upcoming print and online ad campaigns. Our model, Jennifer, was so fabulous to work with and was perfect for the look Katrina was going for. Here’s a little sneak peek at some of the results:

t0012_519091

It was a great shoot and Katrina’s just a blast to be around. It was great watching her work and then being able to really show off her style in these images. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!
