Robyn and Dan

It was Robyn and Dan’s turn to get married this past Saturday!  We absolutely love these two to pieces.  They may seem familiar to everyone keeping up with the blog because we actually just did their engagement session at the end of last month!

They’re an incredible couple because they’re so laid back and fun to be around.  Robyn’s the kind of girl that you could just sit on the floor and chat forever with her.  And well…it’s probably because that’s exactly what we did the week before the wedding.  She’s so easy to get along with, and maybe it’s because they booked us so long ago but we felt like we had known them for so much longer than we really have!

For their wedding, Rene and I split up early in the day and were able to hang out with Dan and Robyn separately.  After going through all of the images, I think it’s going to be fun for both of them to see what the other was up to during all of that time!  Here’s a sneak peek…  They had two adorable flower girls (twins!), an train bearer that seemed so much more grown up than I expected and a precious little ring bearer, too.  They were all Robyn’s nieces and nephews and there was no shortage of photo ops with these guys running around everywhere.  Here’s one example when Robyn was getting dressed early in the day:

Meanwhile, at Dan’s mom’s house Dan was keeping busy, too, with “little” John:

The forecast said rain showers all day but it seemed to hold off completely - until we arrived at the church.  Just as the girls were ready to climb out of the limo, the skies opened up and BUCKETS of rain fell from the sky.  I really can’t wait for Robyn and Dan to see some of the images we got from that moment, though.  This is why I love that Rene and I work together at every wedding.  At the exact moment that Robyn was racing up the steps into the church under two huge umbrellas, Dan was at the other end of the church looking out an open window to watch the torrential rains comes down.  It just made for a great story when all of the images came together.

But anyways as the ceremony started, no one was really sure if little John would end up making it all the way down the aisle by himself.  But after a hesitant start, he was a trooper and made it all the way.  Not without stopping to look back at his mom a few times to make sure everything was okay, though…

And here’s another one of our favorites.  This was one of Rene’s very last shots of the evening. Completely spontaneous and I don’t think Robyn and Dan ever knew he was taking this.

So Robyn and Dan are officially 4 days into their honeymoon and they’ll be gone for another week and a half.  We can’t wait to hear how it went!

Janessa and Brendan

We had a great time at Janessa and Brendan’s wedding rehearsal last Friday!  They’re actually living in Hollywood right now but decided to get married back here since they’re both originally from Massachusetts.  Actually, Brendan and Janessa grew up down the street from each other and have been in local plays together since they were 10 and 11 years old!

So all of their friends and family travelled from near and far (lots of people travelled in from around the country for their wedding…) and veryone came together for a great party at Brendan’s parents’ house! Brendan’s mom actually called us last year about photographing their wedding but we had just booked another wedding for the same date. We were so crushed that the dates conflicted but then Brendan’s mom called us last week and asked us if we’d be available for their rehearsal the evening before. You can imagine how excited we were that we had that date open! So off we went to Methuen where they had set up an enormous tent behind their home and had the entire event catered (bbq-style!). The first thing that greeted all of their family and friends when they first arrived was the yummy aroma of fresh meat and vegetables on the grill. And even though it started to rain everyone stayed nice dry under the tent listening to their great band, Wood-n-Steel!

We snuck out in between raindrops and were able to get some great family portraits done as well as a few of Janessa and Brendan, too, including this one:

Another highlight at the rehearsal was when Brendan go up and starting playing some Buddy Holly songs on the guitar. It turns out he starred as Buddy Holly in different productions around the country! Now he’s been working on some short films and commercials over the past year, so keep an eye out for him!

Here’s an image of another cool feature - the chocolate fountain! Always a big hit!

We heard from Brendan’s mom that the wedding on Saturday was absolutely perfect, too! We wish you guys all of the best and can’t wait to see you again soon!

Kara and Brian!

I know a lot of people have been waiting for this sneak peek, so here it finally is!! There was a lot of anticipation and excitement leading up to Kara and Brian’s wedding and let me just start by saying they did not disappoint!! They planned an incredible weekend-long event and it definitely lived up to all of the anticipation - and then they delivered even more than anyone had already imagined! They decided to have a mini-destination wedding with a reception at the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport, Maine. So while the actual ceremony and reception was on June 17th, Kara and Brian planned an entire weekend of events for all of their guests!

Kara and Brian are both just stunning. When they’re together they are an absolutely striking couple and will always make lots of heads turn. They’re also so down to earth and fun to be around and so completely in love with each other. As we was going through the images from that weekend, we kept finding all of these images of Brian just watching Kara and then we’d see them holding hands and just soaking it all in all day long. And then add to that the so many fun and unique elements from their wedding and it became an event that no one will soon be forgetting. And judging from the emails that we’ve been receiving all week from everyone looking for this blog entry, I think everyone is ready to just relive the entire weekend again!!

There’s so much to tell about the wedding — from the boutonnieres that Kara made herself to the incredible band they had to keep the party going all night long! Funny story about the guys’ boutonnieres. Rene was there when they were all being pinned on and he noticed that there was an actual pin already attached to each one - the kind of pin that you would see on a broach instead of the corsage pins that usually come with them. It was so much easier to put on each guy and Rene thought it was SUCH a great idea. He was dying to know what florist was innovative enough to use that kind of pin for a corsage. Go Kara! They also had an amazing band. One of the best of that we’ve ever seen. They hired Kahootz ( www.bostonsbestband.com ) and they just rocked the entire reception all night long. We’ve decided that the next big party or event we have, we are without a doubt going to hire Kahootz. They were that good.

So let’s start with some images from the wedding! The ceremony was held a church right in Kennebunkport, not far from the resort. Here is an image that Rene took when Brian and his groomsmen first arrived at the church and are waiting for everything to get started.

After the ceremony, we headed back to the Nonantum for some formal pictures. Kara and Brian allotted almost 2 hours for all of their formals, with most of it being focused on them. But more on that later! After the family and wedding party formals were done, Kara and Brian and Rene and I headed out to a rock jetty very close to the resort. Kara and Brian were up for anything! Here is one of my favorite images from when we first arrived:

Check out Kara’s gorgeous flower pin in her hair, too. It went so perfectly with her dress - and speaking of… Kara bought her dress YEARS ago and just knew it was the one. So she had it carefully stored away until the wedding. It fit her like a glove and I completely understand why she never even looked at another dress. When Rene finally saw Kara for the first time at the wedding, he said the first thing he thought was how she was our own Grace Kelly. Here’s a shot that we got of the back of her dress:

It’s amazing! I’ve never seen another dress like this. And it’s not even white! It’s a gorgeous champagne color which was so cool to me! And then she even found shoes that matched her dress and the flower in her hair perfectly, too. That’s my kind of girl! So after spending some time on the shore, we actually all headed out on the rock jetties… I love how Kara kicked off her shoes. After she did this, I’m not sure I ever saw those shoes on her feet again!

Well, after having fun on the jetties, Kara and Brian set off on their (and our) best surprise yet. Brian actually made arrangements to have a sailboat pick them up, go on a short sail and then…arrive at their outdoor cocktail hour by docking just outside the resort. This was a surprise for most of their guests as well, so it was just so much fun to see everyone’s reaction. I stayed on shore so I could get some photos of them out in the ocean and also capture their incredibly cool entrance. And Rene actually climbed aboard with them for that relaxing sail and to get some killer shots, too, of course. So here are a few of them!

Sipping some champagne after they first set sail. (I need to point out Kara’s bare feet here, too. I LOVE it!)

And I can’t forget to mention Kara’s flowers. I love orchids and Kara’s bouqet was filled with them. Here’s a great shot while they were enjoying that sail:

And finally, here they are arriving at the cocktail hour!

Rene also got a great shot from the opposite view of everyone standing along the edge of the ocean waving back, so it will make for a great series. Be sure to watch for it when their website is up. There were just way too many “favorites” to post! It’ll be worth the wait, though, we promise!

Announcing our model search!

Calling all couples that are ready to have a lot of fun with a Day 1 Session - ON US!

In honor of adding “Day 1 Sessions” to our list of services, we’ve decided to do something a little bit different to get the word out about them!  So we’re putting out a call for couples who are ready to try something new and have a LOT of fun!

First, what’s a “Day 1 Session”??  Basically, it’s a portrait session for couples AFTER their wedding and a good excuse to get all dressed up again.  We started offering Day 1 Sessions for two reasons.  First, because all too often the amount of time we get to spend with a couple alone on their wedding day is not as long as we would love to have.  And even more importantly, it’s hard to go really crazy with your portraits because we do still have to try and keep your dress and tux as clean and tidy as possible since  you do still have to wear them the rest of the day!

We’ve had so many couples tell us they wish they didn’t have to worry about these things, so we thought a Day 1 Session would be a perfect solution.  Rene created that name for us because many times a Day 1 Session can be held the day after your wedding - in other words on Day 1 of your new life together.  But a Day 1 session can really be held anytime, anywhere and we can do anything!  Lots of couples have thought about having them right after they come back from their honeymoon when they’re rested, relaxed and still ready to have more fun.

So here’s what we’re looking for:

We are now looking for 2 couples that would like to have their very own Day 1 Session on us!!  We will pay for your session fee (a $500 value!) and then host all of your images on a private, password protected website.  You just need to show up!

What kind of couples are we looking for??

We’re looking for couples who will be available on a day or evening between August 2 and August 5.  We’re also looking for couples who definitely want to have a lot of fun, who are ready to try some cool and sexy ideas, and most importantly are not afraid to get dirty!  Remember this is not just another portrait session!  How cool would it be to get all dressed up again and decide to have your Day 1 Session at the beach on a gorgeous August evening?  You’d be able to run around barefoot this time and who knows, we might even all end up in the ocean at the end of the day!  Or what about getting all dressed and having fun all around downtown Boston?  But this time, not worried about the bottom of your dress getting dirty and having time to stop in at a cool cafe for some funky portraits and a cappuccino or stopping in at a martini bar?  We can do anything!  These are just some random ideas…

So if you’re interested or if you have any questions at all, just send us an email at info@tiradophotography.com  It doesn’t matter if we photographed your wedding or not.  We’re just looking to have some fun! Remember, we only have space for 2 couples!

See you soon!

Jenn and Neil’s Engagement

We got to spend an absolutely gorgeous Monday evening with Jenn and Neil at Lynch Park in Beverly. (http://www.bevrec.com/lynchpark.html)  After all of the rain that we’ve had around here lately, it was so wonderful to be able to spend a warm, sunny evening at the park.  I think everyone else had the same idea because there were so many people there when we first arrived!

This was the first time we met Jenn and Neil but as soon as we met them we could tell that they are a couple that really has it together.  They are so obviously in love and laugh so well together.  It’s only natural for some couples to be a little bit uncomfortable in front of a camera but they were able to relax right away and just had so much fun with it!  Okay, so there were a few laughing fits at the beginning when I matter-of-factly explained to Neil were were going for the you-are-a-hot-model look.  But their genuine laugh and gorgeous smile made for some really great images!  I’m still not sure why all the laughing, though?

I absolutely loved how they were dressed, too.  Jenn had this adorable white sundress that set off her tan perfectly.  And Neil looked sharp in a pale blue button down shirt.  They didn’t try to exactly match what they were were wearing but were coordinated instead and it looked fabulous!

So we started out by heading over to the rose garden (it was also much less crowded there so we had a little bit more privacy).  And no matter what we suggested - Jenn and Neil were ready.  It was awesome!  We tried everything from laying in the grass (in Jenn’s white dress!) to walking out on the rocks over the ocean and we even found an old worn building that was a great contrast to how put together Jenn and Neil were.  That was actually where we took the picture that is posted above.  We all thought that we were pretty much done with everything and were about to start walking back to our cars when, true to form, Rene just wanted to get “one more” shot.  Anyone who has worked with us is nodding their head right now because this is SO typical of Rene!  But usually that one last shot is such an amazing one.  Like this one above.  I LOVE it!

We loved everything about their session and it was really hard to pick just a couple of favorites for the blog!  So I just randomly picked a few so that Jen and Neil can get a quick sneak peak!  Here were a few more that we took on the beach:

Neil is so much taller than Jenn and she’s actually on her tippy toes here.  There’s another great shot after this where you can only see Neil’s shoes and Jenn’s bare feet on her tippy toes.  Love that one, too!  They are just too cute!

Getting a piggy back in a dress is NOT an easy feat!  I absolutely love their expressions here!  (And if you look closely I think you can see Jenn’s fingernails digging into poor Neil’s chest so she doesn’t slide off. :))

Thank you so much Jenn and Neil for coming out for such a great time!!  We can’t wait for you see the rest of your website in a few days.  And have a great time visiting your family in Canada!!

Alison and Greg

What an incredibly fun wedding on Saturday!!  Allison and Greg are such an amazing couple!  This has been a great start to the year for us because we’ve known all of our couples so far for such a long time.  If you’ve been keeping up with the blog, you’ll soon start to see all of the connections!  We actually photographed Allison’s sister’s wedding (Renee and Lance) last year.  That’s when we first met Allison’s family and started to meet the “Fenway crew”. The Fenway crew is a group of friends that all work at Fenway during the year together.  They’re a really tight group of friends and it just so happens that a lot of them that are getting married at around the same time, too!  We’ve been photographing a lot of their weddings, too, so it’s just so much fun to see everyone again at each wedding!

Allison and Greg’s reception was held at the beautiful Royal Sonesta in Cambridge.  They actually left a two hour gap in between the end of their ceremony and the beginning of the reception so we had plenty of time to get some incredible photos. The original plan was to go outside and take a lot photos along the Charles River.  Unfortunately, though it rained all day long so we needed to stay inside.  But that turned out to be a such a treat after all because the Royal Sonesta has one of the funkiest interiors we have seen in a long time!  Every time we turned a corner we saw another cool spot for some photos and Allison and Greg were like rock stars as they worked it for us!  Believe it or not, the image above was taken by Rene just in a hallway at the hotel that was lined with pictures.  I absolutely love their reflections in those frames, too.  Here are a few more of my favorites:

This was what I saw when I first arrived at Allison’s house that afternoon.  As a surprise, all of Allison’s students had a party and they each made a card for her the week before the wedding.  How special was that!

This is another one of Rene’s images while we were roaming the hotel after the ceremony.  I’m just going to be honest and say that these two really do look like they belong in Vogue, no?

And here’s one more that I took during their first dance.  What made me love this photo is just how close Greg is holding Allison and that happy smile….

That’s it for now, but we’re working on the rest of the images for the website right now.  Since Allison and Greg won’t be going on their honeymoon until August, I know they’re ready to see them!
