Day 1 Session

Do you remember the announcement we made a couple of months ago about offering Day 1 Sessions? We had just begun offering them and were looking for two couples to model for us so we could show everyone what it’s all about. Well we finally have the first session to show you!! We had an overwhelming response to our post - we were so happy to see so many couples interested in it! Unfortunately were only able to offer complimentary sessions to the first two couples that emailed us. But that doesn’t mean we can’t still get together with you! If anyone is interested in their own Day 1 session, just give us a call - we’d love to get together with you!

The very first couple to contact us was Liz and Jamie. I seriously believe it was minutes after I posted our announcement to the blog! They actually came here all the way from New York City for their Day 1 Session! I think they get the award for most distance traveled. Although one of our couples that live in Arizona told us they wanted to come out! So Liz and Jamie had two options for their session — they could choose to have it in the city, with more of a funky urban feel or to have one at beach, and in that case they should be prepared for a lot of sand and water!

They decided they wanted to go with a beach, so we all picked out Crane’s Beach in Ipswich as the perfect location. The only problem was the weather. Every time we’d pick a date, the weather forecaster would predict rain — not perfectly ideal for a beach session! Finally we picked a date and it was only supposed to rain in the afternoon. So Liz and Jamie got on the train in New York at 3AM. AM!!! It was still night time! So they got on the train at 3AM and tried to get some more sleep on the way here. Jamie’s wonderful mom then picked them up at the train station when they arrived and drove them up to Crane’s beach for our session. It turned out to be just perfect! I’m so happy they made the trip because we just spent all morning with them having an unbelievably great time - and some very cool images, too. Here are a few of our favorites:

Here’s a great shot of Liz’ dress and her unbelievably toned body. She’s a professional dancer and dance instructor and I just loved showing off all of the muscles in her body.

And of COURSE we ended up in the water after all! The water was definitely cold, but they told us they were up for anything. And when Rene said “Anything?!?!” with a raised eyebrow I had a feeling that’s where we were going. Here’s one of my favorites from that part of the session:

Liz and Jamie were without a doubt the perfect couple for this type of session. They were ready to have just let loose, have a lot of fun and really just spend the day with each other being romantic all over again. Liz sent me a note after they saw their website for the first time and tried to explain why the session was so special for them. Part of the note said, “Thank you, thank you, thank you for making us feel beautiful. I love Jamie with every part of me…but seeing a picture of how he looks at me meant so much. You forget sometimes in the midst of paying bills and cleaning up dirty socks….” And it’s so true! It was such a great chance to take a break and just enjoy everything. We are so happy that they made the trip all the way up here! If anyone is interested in seeing their full session or if you’d like to schedule a session of your own, just send us an email! We’d love to get together with another couple, too, whether it’s on the beach, in the city or any other location you’d like!

A unique session for Liz and Jason

We FINALLY got to spend some time together with Liz and Jason last Sunday!! I say finally because we literally have been trying to get together for weeks now but the weather just would not cooperate every time we had a date scheduled. This past Sunday was no different, but I got a phone call from Jason asking if we’d be up to getting together in the morning since the rain wasn’t supposed to get to us until Sunday afternnoon. So that’s exactly what we did and it worked out perfectly. About 1/2 hour after our session, the rain started coming down so the timing was absolutely perfect!

When Liz and Jason came to us and said they wanted a different kind of photo session, we were all ears. They told us that their idea was to take a series of photos together with some printed numbers and use them for the table numbers at their wedding! We haven’t done anything like that before and thought it sounded like so much fun! So we met up with Liz and Jason at their home in Somerville and that’s right where we started getting a few “table photos” done right inside their condo even getting a few with their cat and dog. We took this one for Table No. 4 right in their stairwell against this very cool brick wall that I would love to have in our own office:

We then started making our way around Somerville, making stops at all of these different locations that had special meaning for them. We stopped at the dog park around the corner where they always take their adorable Chihuahua/Rat terrier mix named Lola to play. That’s also where we got this photo for Table No. 7:

We also stopped at Prospect Hill to get some very neat shots with the skyline in the background and Liz and Rene convinced Jason to actually climb a tree - a very tall one, I might add - to get this shot:

The story behind this photo, though, is actually VERY funny. As we were walking, Liz spontaneously suggested that Jason should climb this tree. Jason jumped to reach one of the lower braches and after realizing just how high it was he said, “You know what? This is really too high, I can’t do this”. But just at that moment, Liz and Rene jumped up and pushed him right up into the tree anyways. I guess they were not about to miss this opportunity. It was pretty funny. And totally worth it for that shot, though, don’t you think??

We also stopped at the place where they went on their first date, where Jason proposed to Liz and a few other places, too. I could keep going but I want there to be a little element of surprise for their guests at the wedding! Little Lola came with us wherever we went, too which was absolutely adorable. We got so many great images of her and here’s one of my favorites:

How adorable is she?? This session was just so much fun and such a unique idea. I’m so happy that they thought of it and hope that we get to do it again soon!

And now Liz and Jason are getting married in just three short weeks! They’re getting married at ther Ritz Carlton in Boston and we absolutely cannot wait for it. Stay tuned for some more photos from their wedding!

Isabel is six months old!

Six months old?!?!? It’s unbelievable how quickly babies grow up! We knew Isabel before she was even born. See, were knew her parents even before they were married! We met Michelle and Bill just after they were engaged in 2003. We LOVED these two and scheduled an engagement session for them the next summer. They’re incredibly beautiful and so passionate and we were tipped off to how much fun they were when they were up for all kinds of cool photos at the La Perla storefront in downtown Boston. (Remember that??) Then we were all caught in a blizzard at their wedding in March of 2005. I’m not exaggerating when I say blizzard, either. It was definitely a blizzard and still one of the most beautiful weddings because of it, too. Our engagement session antics carried over to the wedding when - in the middle of the snowstorm - Michelle and Bill insisted we all go outside for some photos and a snowball fight. To this day, some of my favorite wintertime photos are from that snowball fight!

Then we got the news that they were having a baby! So we stopped by again soon after Isabel was born for her newborn session. Even though Isabel wasn’t feeling too well and Michelle was exhausted from being up every night with her, you would never have known it because we had an such incredible session! So incredible that one of Isabel’s photos from that session can be found in our gallery on our main website and she’s the featured photo on the front of our gift certificates as well! So when she reached that big six-month milestone, the only way to celebrate was to get together for another session, of course! And here she is! Michelle and Bill told us how much she loved being outside and especially in the grass, so they thought of this great little park and farm stand near their home. It was absolutely perfect and Isabel loved it. Here are some more of our favorites! Here is Michelle snuggling with her during a little break in the action:

Isabel’s cousin, Jamison, also came along and and we were able to get some great images of the two of them together. We’ve known Jamison for a little while, too, and just love her to pieces. She’s got this spunk and energy that just makes you giggle everytime she says something. The chickens at this little farm sure got their exercise trying to keep away from Jamison! Here’s one of my favorites of her as well. I love that little tiny tongue!

And here’s one our absolute favs. We walked over to a playground and Bill had Isabel laughing out loud everytime he lifted her up like this. It was just priceless!

It was so great seeing you all again. We can’t believe how much Isabel has grown in just a few months! I’m afraid to think about how big she’ll be the next time we get together. We can’t wait to see those new teeth when they come in!

Julia and Jeff

Jeff and Julia are finally married! It was so incredible for us to be for their wedding because Jeff and Julia are such a beautiful couple - inside and out. We’ve known them for over a year now and after getting together with them and even doing their engagement photos as well - we knew that that the wedding would be really special for us.

Both Rene and I started at the John Carver Hotel in Plymouth which is this great little inn right in the center of Plymouth. It was so ideal because the church where they got married was literally around the corner. One of our favorite parts of the day was when all of the guys and then about half an hour later, all of the girls, walked over to the church together. There’s nothing that will stop traffic more quickly than a bride and little flower girl walking hand in hand down the street with all of her family and bridemaids right behind her. It was great!

The ceremony was very emotional as well. Let me explain… Jeff is this big, broad shouldered guy. And also the sweetest guy you’ll ever meet. An when this big man just cried when Julia came down the aisle, I actually had a hard time keeping it together. Here are some of Rene’s images from that moment. This was Jeff’s reaction after seeing Julia:

I just love how two of Jeff’s groomsmen (one of them is Julia’s brother) are also checking out Jeff’s reaction. And here was a teary Julia as she saw Jeff:

One of my favorite quotes from the wedding was when we got together with Jeff and Julia for some alone time after the ceremony and the first thing Julia said after seeing Rene was, “I am so sorry about crying all the way down the aisle.” While at the same time Rene was trying to hug her for letting him get such an emotional reaction! It was just too funny.

After the ceremony we headed over to the Waverly Oaks Golf Club where Jeff and Julia were having their reception. Before even getting to the actual country club, we actually pulled over to the side of the road right at the entrance because we loved this little area just off to the side with lots of tall grass and blue skies. We just HAD to get some photos there and thankfully Jeff and Julia were up for anything so they stopped their limo and we were able to get the image at the top of this post. (By the way, take a look at that bouqet - it was absolutely gorgeous!)

We then moved on to take some photos with the rest of the wedding party. Now here’s a photo of Julia and the groomsmen. Rene took this photo and I wasn’t there for it, so I’m really not sure what the story is behind it but I do know that it made me laugh out loud when I saw it. I have to remember to ask Julia what this was all about! I love it, too, because THIS is how I see Julia.

And now for our favorites! The timing of Jeff and Julia’s wedding worked out perfect because we were able to have some time alone with them right when the sun was setting that evening. Here is one of my favorites that was lit completely with that warm sunset.

And one that Rene took of Julia by herself.  I love, love the lighting on this…

Jeff and Julia left for Costa Rica after the wedding and actually JUST got back home! We are so excited for them to see the rest of the wedding (and hear more about Costa Rica!!!).

Stacey and Mark

Stacey and Mark had an amazingly gorgeous wedding on August 26! And as you can see they are definitely an amazingly gorgeous couple, too. These guys are so cute together and we had such a great day with them. I got together with the girls early in the afternoon and we had SO much fun. Stacey got ready at her new mother-in-law’s beautiful home and it all started when Stacey forgot the exact address and sent me to the wrong house! I strolled up the front door and this poor woman answered with the most confused look on her face. She was probably wondering why this girl with 2 cameras around her neck was standing at her door! On my way to this poor woman’s house, though, I did see a whole lot of activity going on a few houses down and I really suspected that’s where I should have been. It made for such a good laugh when I finally met up with Stacey a few minutes later! And that’s really how the whole afternoon went — lots of good times with the girls and LOTS of laughing! I have more stories to tell just from the few hours getting ready than from any other wedding. Oh, if only I had the space to write them here…

Stacey and Mark had their reception at the Butternut Farms Golf Club which is just beautiful. It was our first time there and we can’t wait to go back soon hopefully! So here are a few more photos of Stacey and Mark. Take a look at Stacey’s amazing eyes. I couldn’t get enough of them! And I absolutely loved her dress and the scalloped edging at the top which is so unique and you know how we love anything unique!

The country club was great because there are so many different locations for photos. We had a great time just walking around the grounds for different “looks”. Now that Stacey and Mark are back from their honeymoon in Costa Rica (can’t wait to hear more about it!!), we’re ready to show them the rest of their wedding very soon!!

Major changes at Tirado Photography!

Let me pause for a moment between the clouds of dust and dirt and everythinig messy to tell you about the changes we’re making this week! We are completely redoing the entire landscape around our home and office this week. We hired an incredible landscape contractor, Dan DeStefano, to do everything from top to bottom for us. He’s been incredible so far and they should actually have everything done within the next few days. That timeframe is really mind-boggling considering all of the work we’re having them do. They’ve been at it nonstop from early in the morning until later in the evening every single day this week.

In the past few weeks some of you that have stopped by may have noticed that we cut down quite a few trees here. Well this week, all of the lawn was ripped up as well the two main entrances, and a stone wall in the back. And for everyone who was using the giant boulders in front of the house as a landmark — those are gone now, too! But we’ll be replacing those ugly boulders with a gorgeous stone wall which will definitely look much better. A brand new brick walkway was put down just yesterday in the front of the house and the office entrance that everyone uses will also have a new brick walkway/patio by tomorrow or Saturday. We also received delivery of all of our new trees and shrubs and plants today so our front yard looks like a dense forest at the moment!

So these are some exciting changes for us! So for anyone who has any appointments scheduled for this week - PLEASE accept our apologies for the disaster zone out there. I promise it will all be worth it in the end! And for everyone else, we can’t wait to have you stop by and see it when everything is done! I’ll be sure to post some before and after photos for everyone as well. (We definitely weren’t going to forget about the photos!)
More updates soon…
