Angela and Artie’s engagement

We had a great engagement session with Angela and Artie last week! This was actually our first time meeting Angela and Artie because even though we won’t be able to photograph their wedding next April, they still wanted to get together with us for an engagement session, which was great!

There so many different pieces to this session that just made it all very fun. First there were the pups… When we first arrived Angela introducted us to Bailey and Morgan - their two very adorable Golden Retrievers. Bailey is a couple of years old now and they just picked baby Morgan up a couple of weeks ago! We absolutely adore dogs so we were thrilled when Angela asked us if it would be okay to include Bailey and Morgan into their photos. Although we don’t have any dogs of our own yet (still working on it!), it was so much fun to play with these guys and get some great photos of them. Bailey is a great big ham and loved having his photo taken but Morgan has the attention span of a newborn and found it a little hard to sit still! We did get some great shots of them, though, including this one right in their backyard:

And about .25 seconds after that photo was taken, Morgan was up and running straight for the camera. Sometimes you only have one take!

So after taking a few photos with the pups, we went with Angela and Artie to this fantastic spot in West Boylston for their engagement session. This was a great location right on the reservoir and with an old gutted out stone building. The sun was setting right over the water and the light coming into the stone building was just PHENOMENAL. It’s the kind of place some people would walk by and wonder why this old building was still around, but that a photographer would look at and just drool over the possibilities.

Anyways we all had a great time using all of the different elements at this location including the rocks overlooking the water here. We found out that Artie enjoys a good backrub from Angela so they told us that this next image is very appro for the two of them:

And finally one more with the great dramatic sky that we had that evening. The weather forecast was predicting possible rain showers for that night. It never rained a drop, but it did give us some really great dramatic clouds to use like this:

Thanks so much for coming out with us, Angela and Artie! You guys are one cool couple and I know you’re going to have an amazing time at your wedding! Congratulations you two!!

Nicole and Paul!

Can I just start this entry by first saying what an amazingly cool job we have?? I could never give this up for anything in the world. Where else do you get to meet and then really get to know some amazing couples and see them at their happiest moments and then become great friends with them as the years go by.

And every once in a while we’ll have a wedding that I’m actually truly sad after it’s all over. Only because you spend so much time with each other and you really hope that life doesn’t get in the way and that you don’t drift apart after the wedding. Nicole and Paul are one of those couples. We absolutely love these guys to pieces. They live in Hoboken, New Jersey now, which is this great little hip town and if you’ve never been there, you really need to visit someday when you’re in the New York area. But they got married back here in Boston where they grew up.

Nicole and Paul booked us back in October of last year and we even did their engagement session last December. We had such a great time running around the city for that session (literally!) and we just couldn’t wait to do it again at the wedding. We’ve had so much time to get to know them and have gotten so close to them that we truly felt like we were watching some great friends get married last Saturday. It was just an amazing feeling!

The day started nice and early with me heading over to Nicole’s parents’ home in South Boston. One of the first things I love to do when I get started before the wedding is just roam the house looking for great locations or little spots around the house that I might be able to use. One of the first things I noticed was that Nicole was going to be wearing some really great shoes and I was just itching to get a funky shot of them before she got dressed. In my travels around the house I also found a room with amazing color on the walls and knew I needed to use those walls. So this is one of the “shoe” images that I got:

And Nicole will probably kill me for this, but ladies…did you know that if you do several reps of arm curls JUST before you go out, your muscles will hold that nice taut shape throughout the evening. Neither did I! Which is why I was completely baffled when just SECONDS before heading downstairs to meet the trolley, I found Nicole in the hallway with her weights doing her arm exercises. I almost fell down the stairs laughing but I will admit Nicole had great arms all day long. And I’m also not ashamed to admit that I followed her advice when I went out to dinner a few nights later. Don’t you know that I had great arms that night too. So thank Nicole for that nice little fashion tip the next time you go out!

After Nicole and Paul’s ceremony, we all headed over to the park just behind the federal courthouse in Boston. There’s some great greenery there, it’s right on the harbor and you have the skyline just behind you. It was a perfect spot! We were able to get lots of great images from this area including the one at the top of this entry and here are a few more:

In the middle of our photo shoot, Paul started playing around with his ring and was doing this hiliarious balancing act with it on the end of his nose. This then gave Rene a great idea and he took a completely different twist on your typical ring shot:

So let this be a lesson to everyone… You can never be sure how far Rene will take your simple ideas and turn them into something completley different - so be prepared for anything!

Afterwards, Nicole and Paul had their reception at the gorgeous Seaport hotel and so we hurried back to get a few photos around the hotel since it’s so beautiful there:

After that, it was nothing but pure fun all evening long. Nicole and Paul brought a great band - The Touch - all the way here from New York just to play at their wedding! (www.thetouchpage.com) Nicole had been telling me about them for months and so I knew they were going to be good but we were completely floored by how amazing they really are. The dance floor was completely full all night long and their music was phenomenal! So after the wedding, Nicole and Paul spent a few days in Martha’s Vineyard. But they’re now back home again and actually getting ready for their big trip to Greece!!! We’ve never been so we’re dying to hear all about it. I’ve already chatted with Nicole a few times since the wedding so I know they’re dying to see the rest of photos, too. Very soon, guys - we promise!
