Kaitlin and Mike - from Texas to Massachusetts!

.

Kaitlin and Mike had an absolutely gorgeous summer day for their wedding last week. They came all the way from Texas to get married here in Massachusetts which is where Kaitlin is from originally. You may even remember Kaitlin and Mike from their engagement session at Fenway Park last August. We had so much fun finding all kinds of great little nooks around Fenway and it was just a little taste of what was to come for the wedding!

We started the day by splitting up so that I was able to spend some time with Kaitlin and her bridesmaids while Rene got lots of great shots of Mike and the groomsmen. Some of our favorite images from before the ceremony were of just Kaitlin and Mike alone - first here is my modern twist on some details:

.

And I just love this image that Rene took of Mike:

Kaitlin and Mike decided to see each other privately before the ceremony and it was just so amazing to be able to document that moment for them from a distance. For me, there is still nothing more exciting than when a couple gets to see each other for the first time. And it’s so amazing when they actually get to be together and share that moment alone like this. I love it! Here is THE moment when Kaitlin and Mike first saw each other:

You can really see Kaitlin absolutely stunning gown in that last photo! It was a gorgeous Melissa Sweet gown and it was perfect for her! And the other thing we loved about their attire was that Mike was not wearing a tux at all. Instead he had an incredible three piece suit that was matched Katilin’s dress and was perfect for a garden ceremony.

Kaitlin and Mike had both their ceremony and reception at the Endicott Estate in Dedham, MA. Their ceremony was held on the back lawn of the estate and their cocktail hour and reception was held in all of the various rooms inside. It was the perfect location for a summer wedding! Now for a few more of our favorite photos from their wedding! Here is one that was taken just moments before the ceremony started:

We had such an amazing time with Kaitlin and Mike and just wished they didn’t live so far away! Their website is already online with the rest of their photos and we’re so excited to share them!

There was a lot of work that went into making everything so picture perfect and here are some of the details from Kaitlin and Mike’s wedding:

Kaitlin’s gown: A Melissa Sweet original from Priscilla of Boston
The ceremony and reception was held at the beautiful Endicott Estate in Dedham, MA.
Their wedding coordinator:  Heather Minicucci of Simply Inviting Weddings
Their justice of the Peace: Gary D. Fine
DJ: Mike Love Entertainment
Florist: Suzanne Bellanger, Bella Floral Design
Cake: The always delicious Montillio’s
Caterer: Cardoos Gourmet Caterer (Wow! These guys were so amazing and the food was not only delicious but truly could have been works of art on their own!!)

Lan and John’s gorgeous city wedding

We had another fabulous wedding last weekend and it had everything to do with the guests of honor! Lan and John have been prepping us for their wedding for over a year and a half now (talk about dying of anticipation!)

We scheduled their engagement session for last October and had the best time just roaming the streets of downtown Melrose and getting to know each other even more. As the wedding got closer and closer, Lan and I were staying in touch regularly and I think we were getting as excited as they were about the wedding! Their wedding was truly a weekend event for their guests and for us, too! Their rehearsal dinner was at Maggiano’s in downtown Boston and they asked Rene and I to document the evening for them as well. It was so wonderful for us to get to meet their family and close friends before the wedding and really see first hand how important Lan and John are to them. By the time we arrived the next day we felt as though we already knew everyone in their family and in their wedding party so well.

One thing that Lan and John arranged for was to see each other privately before the ceremony began. Almost every wedding we’ve photographed so far this season has included this special meeting before the ceremony. It’s been so amazing for us to be able to capture the incredible emotions from a distance. Lan and John wanted to meet on the beautiful grounds of Boston College and we then had so much fun using all of the different buildings and architectural elements in their photos! They definitely got into the spirit of our session and after walking around a bit and taking some shots, Lan even began to spot some great elements that would make for some gorgeous images. Like this great long set of stairs in front of a giant stone building leading to a plaza:

.

And the next is one of my absolute favorite moments from our pre-ceremony session. We were playing around with Lan’s to-die-for Vera Wang veil. I was really getting her to ham it up when she just cracked up laughing and I got exactly what I was looking for - this perfect smile of hers. Can’t you just hear her laughing here?

.

The other thing that just gets me is just how stunning Lan is. She’s so beautiful and everything was just perfect from her hair to her makeup, her gorgeous Reem Acra gown, but it was Lan that made it all breathtaking, if that makes sense. She’s just so stunning and together she and John make one smokin’ hot couple! :)

Lan and John had their ceremony at St. Ignatius right there at Boston College and then had their reception at the beautiful Ballroom Veronique in Brookline. If you’ve never been there, Ballroom Veronique is one of the many gorgeous buildings in Boston that truly makes you feel as though you are royalty when you walk the halls. Here are some more of our favorites from that evening:

And something a little different to show of their rings:

.

Lan and John really thought of everything when it came to their wedding and the end result was one of the most elegant, picture perfect weddings that anyone could ever dream of. There were so many unique details from their wedding (like the Rolls Royce that they traveled in was once owned by Nicholas Cage!!) and it truly made for unforgettable day. We can’t wait to show off the rest of the images!

Now here’s the scoop on some of the details that I’ve been telling you about:

Rehearsal dinner: Maggiano’s Little Italy, Boston (The food is so incredibly good here!!)
Lan and her bridesmaids got ready at the Sheraton Colonial, Wakefield on the morning of the wedding. They also have the best lobby - perfect for getting creative with photos!
Lan wore a stunning gown by Reem Acra
And her cathedral length veil was by Vera Wang
All of the transportation was arranged by Black Tie Limo - including that gorgeous Rolls Royce! We’ve worked with Black Tie many times before and they really have amazing customer service - we absolutely love these guys.

And I’ve saved my last two favorite vendors for last.

Their videography was provided by Vignette Films . We’ve worked with Melissa and her husband Jeremy in the past and we absolutely love them. Not only are they such a great couple, but Melissa’s work is just phenomenal. She’s also one of the few videographers that we know that provide Super 8mm coverage! It’s such a cool, funky look and I’m dying to see Lan and John’s video when it’s ready!

They also had an incredible band. It was the first time that we had heard Boston Players live, but they seriously brought the house down. They were GOOD!

Atlantic City, anyone?

As a follow up to our last post about Day One sessions and “trashing your dress” parties, I wanted to talk a little bit more about the upcoming trip we have planned for Atlantic City. We will be there because we’re organizing a seminar for professional photographers. But we will also be having Trash the Dress sessions while we’re there!

A few of the photographers in the area have decided to throw a party and we want you to get trashed! We’re looking for some fun couples (or even just brides) who are willing to get a little dirty in the sand, ocean, streets - anywhere! Each bride or couple will be paired up with six photographers. The requirements are that you should be camera friendly - meaning you’re not someone who will be completely uncomfortable in front of the camera. And that you’re ready to have a lot of fun!

All couples or brides will need to sign a model release and you’ll also be given a disc of all of the finished images. All of your finished images will also be posted to a professional lab so you also have the option of purchasing professional prints from your session.

This will all be happening on the evening of Tuesday, July 10th in Atlantic City, NJ. If you’re interested, please send me an email at info@tiradophotography.com. Here’s the important part, though: you must let us know by tomorrow at the very latest. We hope to see you there!!

Trash the Dress!

Our “Day One” sessions have been a very popular feature that many of our couples have taken advantage of. We started offering “Day One” sessions last summer and have been so excited about all of the interest and by all of the couples that have already booked their own sessions!

For everyone who’s wondering what we’re talking about, a “Day One” session is a private session that we schedule after the wedding for just a couple. This session gives you the chance to put your dress (and suit) back on again and this time have a little bit more fun with it. There’s no pressure or time constraints like there might be on your actual wedding day, there’s no worrying about whether you’re going to get your dress or suit dirty and you can have some photos that you never thought would be possible! Some couples schedule their session for the day after the wedding (and that’s how we originally came up with the name…). Some couples schedule it for when they return from their honeymoon. And some couples will schedule it long after the wedding is over - it’s never too late! We’ve even have had some brides ask us to do a solo session with just them by themselves. You could say it’s a sort of “reverse” bridal portrait session!

You might remember seeing an entry on our blog from Liz and Jamie’s Day One session. We did a beach session with them and ended up in the ocean fully dressed! The images were just gorgeous and they had so much fun! We could have a romp around the city and use some back alleys and out of the way places that you’d never normally have time to visit on your wedding day. And remember, the point of the session is to completely let go and have fun. Not to worry about your dress getting dirty or about the wind going through your hair. Everything can be cleaned and combed afterwards - we just want you to have fun and have some amazing artwork of YOU! :)

There was actually an incredibly interesting article in the New York Sunday Times this weekend exactly about these types of sessions that are quickly gaining lots of attention around the country. Some of our friends have their work featured in this article and we’re so proud of them and so excited about the publicity of these types of sessions since we love them so much. Take a quick peek at the article here: New York Times Article - and be sure to click on the slideshow to see some great images! Also a blog has been set up for all of us who photograph these types of sessions and it’s a great place to see lots of stunning images as well: Trash the Dress

Rene and I will also be in Atlantic City soon organizing a seminar for professional photographers where we’ll have a Trash the Dress party complete with area couples who are interested in their own session. We’ll have some phenomenal wedding photographers there from around the country, so it should be a great time!

So, before you do anything with your dress after the wedding, whether you plan to sell it, store it, give it away, whatever… why not have a little bit of fun with it first!!

Juhee and Dave’s beautiful urban wedding!

It’s hard to believe, but we actually only met Juhee and Dave a few months ago when they first came to meet with us about their wedding. Two months after that meeting, we had already photographed their engagement session (remember seeing that big Coca-Cola truck on our blog??) and now have photographed their wedding!

To say that we’re so happy they found us would be a HUGE understatement. Juhee and Dave are truly the kind of couple that you would want to be friends with. They’re both incredibly warm, smart, successful and so in love. One thing that really stands out is how “at peace” they are. They’re so happy and content and it really creates a soothing environment around them. Even in the wedding craziness that always exists those last few hours just before you get married, both Juhee and Dave were so calm and just elated about the entire day!

Just an interesting little piece of background information on Juhee and Dave. Many of you may know how obsessed Rene and I are at the moment with all things Paris, having just returned from our own trip there. Well a year ago, Dave had an internship position in Paris and invited Juhee to go out and visit him. It was during that visit that Dave (after a lot of secret planning) proposed to Juhee right there on the banks of the Seine!

You might remember from our blog entry that we had the longest engagement session ever with Juhee and Dave - it was almost 3 hours!! We were all just having so much fun that we truly never even realized how much time had passed. When we finally looked at watches, we all just kind of stared at each other in shock! And then proceeded to spent another 45 minutes walking around the city to get more shots. :) So, after a session like that, you know we were excited about their wedding!

And we were so right to be excited about it! It was a picture perfect day with gorgeous weather and a stunning couple. Their ceremony was at the beautiful Memorial Church at Harvard University and after the ceremony, we headed to the Boston Public Garden for some photos and then to the renowned Hampshire House for their reception. Now for a quick sneak peek at some of their photos! (Tip: You can click on any image to see a larger version in a new window…)

Juhee’s dress was JUST amazing and the most adorable little details on it:

And now for some images from their private session:

And these next few were actually taken in a back service hallway at the Hampshire House. We found it by accident and noticed the gorgeous lighting coming in through the windows and got so excited by it. We told Juhee and Dave about it and they ran out to the hallway with us for just a few minutes during the reception to have a little fun. Some of my favorite images from the day happened right at that moment!

.

There were truly too many great images of them to put them all on the blog, but we just finished their website and we’re so excited to show off the rest of their wedding! Congratulations Juhee and Dave!!

Ceremony: The Memorial Church at Harvard University (Cambridge, MA)
