Michelle and Ken’s wedding…THE Boston event

So what were YOU doing last weekend? If you weren’t at Michelle and Ken’s wedding, then I just may have to argue that you were not having as the rest of us were!

Michelle and Ken were married in the Back Bay at St. Cecilia’s church and their reception was at the beautiful Harvard Club. The week before the wedding, we met Michelle and Ken for lunch downtown and had fun visiting the Harvard Club and hearing about all of the last little details for the wedding. So needless to say, we were on pins and needles waiting for the big day!

Michelle and Ken were determined to enjoy every single second of their wedding. And so when the day began, Rene and I found both of them completely relaxed and soaking in every moment! I picked out 17 - seventeen! - images to post as a little preview for Michelle and Ken’s wedding, but Rene convinced me to pare it down a bit so we could finish working on the rest of their website. :) So here are just a couple of our favorites!!

Michelle wore a stunning Monique Lhuillier gown that fit her absolutely perfectly and had the most beautiful beaded detail at her waist. Before we left for the ceremony, Michelle, her bridesmaids and I took a little bit of time to take advantage of some of the GORGEOUS lighting that exists everywhere at the Harvard Club. I found exactly what I was looking for in small sconce mounted to the wall that we used to create some beautifully dramatic lighting. The result is one of my favorite portraits ever…

Next, the enormous double staircase and huge window in the lobby of the Harvard Club was the perfect setting for Michelle as she walked downstairs as her dad waited for her.

.

After their beautiful ceremony, there was quite a surprise waiting for Ken. Ken loves the sound of bagpipes and so Michelle secretly arranged for a bagpiper to arrive at the church once the ceremony was over. The stunned look on Ken’s face as the bagpiper made his way down the aisle to them was just precious! Ken never suspected and he could barely contain his excitement and surprise. Michelle sent us a note just a few days before the wedding (thank you, Michelle!) so Rene was ready and waiting for Ken’s reaction as it all unfolded. What a fantastic surprise!

After the ceremony was over, we all made our way to the Boston Public Garden for all of our family and wedding party photos and also were able to spend lots of time with Michelle and Ken by themselves. I have to tell you, their wedding party was probably one of the FUNNIEST weddings parties we’ve ever had the honor of being with all day long. My belly literally hurt from laughing so hard with these guys! We then made our way back to the Harvard Club and were greeted by one of the most elegantly decorated rooms. If anyone is interested in classic, elegant details, you’re going to want to see this wedding. Rene and I spent so long photographing all of the details - we were in heaven! Everywhere we turned there was another little touch. From all of the candles lining the balconies around the ballroom and the pillar candles atop both fireplaces to the gorgeous silk overlays on each table, everything was ready to be showcased in a magazine.

It truly all paled in comparison to Michelle and Ken, though, as they set the tone for the entire reception with their first dance that ended with a big kiss:

.

Michelle and Ken are still on their honeymoon and hopefully not even thinking about any of us back home! But their website is already up so they’ll be able to relive every moment again as soon they return!

We’re growing!!

So as most of you know by now, we’ve been scouring the Boston area for the past couple of months looking for some uber-talented photographers to join the Tirado Photography team. We were so excited to announce last month that Carl Hollins was officially working with us. The incredible response that we received from everyone to that announcement has been so wonderful! Thank you so, so much from the bottom of our hearts for the wonderful well wishes and the super warm welcome so far! We truly have met some of the most amazing couples over the years and we just can’t thank you all enough for everything since without all of you, we wouldn’t be where we are now. It’s because of you that we get to indulge ourselves in being creative and having fun while documenting one of the most emotional and important days of your lives. This is a job?!?! It shouldn’t be called that and we never forget that it’s possible only because of the incredibly cool and fun couples that have trusted us completely (and that we’ve become great friends with)!

And so now we’re SO excited to announce that we’ve at last found one more incredible photographer to work with us! Soooo…. I’d like to introduce everyone to Jeff Newcum!! We’ve actually known Jeff for years and became good friends with him when he first started photographing weddings. He is just a natural addition to the studio - we’ve always loved his work and he’s one of those people that you just love to be around. He’s always ready to make you laugh and we just couldn’t think of anyone who would fit in better with us! We already added a gallery of his work on our website and will have a lot more to share here in the studio. Jeff is truly a talented artist and an incredibly cool guy and we’re just so excited for everyone to meet him!! In the meantime, here’s a little sneak peek of some of Jeff’s very cool images!

.

.

Jeff’s a freak for the little details like I am. And a freak for reflections like Rene is. Actually, if Rene and I were combined into one photo, it would probably look something like this: :)

.

And can I just say I LOVE this next image….

.

Well, in case you didn’t realize it - we are SO excited to have incredibly talented photographers like Jeff and Carl officially part of our team. Now we all can’t wait to keep kicking butt around New England with our awesome couples!

Nicole and Matt - Pure summer elegance

We spent an amazing summer day with Nicole and Matt last weekend at their wedding. We first met them nearly one year ago and we knew that we would have a ton of fun together after photographing their engagement session last November. During their engagement session we spent an entire afternoon roaming around the Boston waterfront and around the North End and then for the next nine months waited on pins and needles for their wedding to arrive!

And it was so worth the wait! Nicole and Matt had their ceremony at St. John’s Prep in Danvers which is Matt’s alma mater. The school and chapel are set on incredibly picturesque grounds and I got goosebumps watching Nicole and her dad arrive in a vintage Rolls Royce in front of everyone.

Nicole and Matt also decided to see each other privately before the ceremony and we were so honored to be able to capture that incredibly emotional moment. We had a unique vantage point and were able to capture both of their emotions at that moment which made it all that much more special!

After the ceremony we all drove to the gorgeous Tupper Manor at Endicott College in Beverly. Rene and I were almost giddy with all of the phenomenal locations we found for photos! Here are a few of our favorites:

Here’s a set up of their ultra-cool wedding party:

.

And I love this image of Matt and his 1000-watt smile! I adore that perfect grin!

.

And Nicole is an absolute goddess in her wedding dress. Here she is striking a fabulous pose…

.

And I have to say that I truly believe Nicole is the epitome of elegance in this next image…

.

And we were so tickled to let Nicole and Matt have a little moment to themselves with all of this beautiful lighting and gorgeous shadows around them…

.

There are so many more to share including one of the best first dances we have ever seen!! Nicole and Matt told us they had a surprise but we never expected the incredible performance that they had perfected - it was just awesome! So even though they’re still having fun on their honeymoon, their entire gallery is ready and waiting for them as soon as they get home!

Best of Boston 2007!!!!

.

2007 is shaping up to be quite a year for us! Guess who just won Boston Magazine’s Best of Boston 2007 award for Best Photographer??

Last night, Rene and I were completely thrilled to receive the Best of Boston award this year for best photographer! We have been flying high ever since! We’ll be posting some more images soon but we had an amazing time at Boston Magazine’s release party last night on Carson Beach in South Boston.

We’re just so excited and can’t thank all of our couples and clients enough! It’s because of YOU that we can do what we do best and still love every minute of it. It’s because of all the couples that came to us and said, “We trust you and we want you to do what you do best. Go for it and give us something different.” It’s because of you guys that we have been able to continually reach for something better and new and different. When we receive emails that you’re continually checking our blog and giving us feedback, that makes us want to keep pushing and creating something different and unique for you. After all, you’ll know if we’re just doing the same thing over and over again at our weddings. So thank you for keeping us on our toes, and for allowing us to keep our creative juices flowing and more than anything - thank you for having complete confidence in us and allowing us to continue creating unique and beautiful images of for you!

Michael’s first portrait session

.

I’d like everyone to meet Michael! Isn’t he the most precious little ball of adorable that you’ve ever seen? Look at those cute little rolls on his legs! Between several different outfit changes, scenery changes and nonstop action, Michael was a true pro and never lost his cool! Seriously, though, I can’t remember the last time I saw a happier baby! I had so much fun with him and we even had a chance to take some great family portraits with his mom, dad and their cute Labrador Retriever, too! There were just so many favorites so here are a few more…

Michael’s just starting to learn how to crawl and even though he can’t get very far yet, you can tell he’s going to hit the ground running very soon!

.

.

I absolutely loved getting to meet Michael and his family (and their beautiful Lab!) and I’m really looking forward to seeing them again soon. I have a feeling that I’ll need to bring my running shoes with me to keep up with Michael next time!

Margaret and Tim’s glamorous wedding!

We just spent an amazing day with Margaret and Tim at their wedding! We’re so excited to share these images with everyone. Wow - is all I can say. From Margaret’s heart stopping eyes, to Tim’s 100-watt smile right through their perfectly executed first dance, everything from that day was completely memorable.

We started the day as we normally do and I met Margaret at her parents’ home while Rene and Tim got ready with his groomsmen in the Presidential Suite at the Radisson Hotel in Boston’s Theater District. That’s where Tim received a special wedding gift that Margaret had sent over. Before he opened it, though, he sat in the bedroom of his suite to quietly read the letter Margaret had written to him. That’s when Rene caught this moment:

.

Meanwhile, at that same moment, Margaret was in her parents’ home just getting into her gown…

.

Isn’t Margaret just stunning?!? Next we all made our way to Taxiarchae Greek Orthodox Church in Boston for their traditional Greek Orthodox ceremony. Tim’s family isn’t Greek so the ceremony was performed in both Greek and English so that everyone would understand what was happening. A huge highlight to the ceremony was the all male a capella group that performed - Overboard Vocals. Absolutely breathtaking. I still get chills when I think about how they sounded during the ceremony - it was just AMAZING.

After the ceremony we had plans to either head to the Boston Public Garden or to head directly to the hotel for all of the portraits. Once we all climbed into the limo, though, heavy rain started coming down, so the decision was made! We were definitely heading to the hotel. I have to admit, I’m so tickled that we did. We had so much fun exploring the hotel with Margaret and Tim and got some of the most amazing images in places you’d never imagine! Here are a couple of our favorites:

.

And I just can’t get enough of this image. I love, love, love it! Such a great laugh:

.

There are so many more images to share, but Margaret and Tim’s website is up, so we’ll let everyone take a peek there! The rest of the reception was just amazingly fun. They had both a DJ and a Greek band there, so you can only imagine how incredible the music was - nonstop fun all evening long. Not to mention that we photographed Tim’s sister’s wedding in September of 2005 (Hi, Kate and Tim!!!) and so it was so much fun to see everyone again and to catch up.

Since we had been eagerly waiting for Margaret and Tim’s wedding for nearly two years, I can definitely say without a doubt that it was worth the wait! Margaret and Tim are enjoying a two week honeymoon in Greece as we speak! I already got an email from Margaret who promises that she’s taking lots and lots of pictures for us. I don’t know when we’ll get to visit Greece, so in the meantime, we get to live vicariously through our couples. We can’t wait to see those pictures!
