What’s in a name? You tell us!

Now that the boxes are all unpacked, the photos are up on the wall and our mini-fridge is stocked with goodies, we can now say that we are officially moved into our new studio!! The timing is perfect because we are ready to kick off the year right. We have a lot of new products and services lined up and lots of great ideas that we just can’t wait to tell everyone about!

Our first big announcement is the launch of our new boutique portrait studio! Until now, we have focused primarily on photographing weddings and couples. Over the years, though, we’ve been photographing more and more newborns, toddlers and entire families and, well, I’m not too embarrassed to admit that I have completely fallen in love with portrait work. Many of you already know the story behind how we actually became wedding photographers. Rene has always been a photography buff and pursued the artistic side of photography for years. About nine years ago, our friends started getting married and asked Rene to photograph their wedding, but Rene was super reluctant because he definitely didn’t want to become one of those stereotypical wedding photographers with the stale poses week after week. He thought it would be an artist’s nightmare. But our friends were persistent and eventually Rene agreed on one condition - that they would let him photograph their weddings as he envisioned it. No stale poses and they had to be open to some fun ideas. They agreed…and the rest is history!

That is almost how we launched the portrait side of our studio as well. Many of our couples were starting families after their weddings and would ask us to photograph their newborns and we’d then follow these gorgeous kids as they grew up. Instead of providing very formal, traditional portraits we had a more hands-on approach. We loved to spend more time with our families and children and playing with them so that we could photograph them actually having fun together and then be able to provide some great natural and beautiful portraits. More and more requests starting pouring in and so when we finally moved into our cool space at the end of last year, we thought it would be the perfect time to pursue another dream of ours and officially launch a boutique portrait studio!

Photographing weddings is still going to be a very important part of our lives (we’re too addicted to weddings to stop!) but now we’ll also be spending some time creating a similar experience for families and kids, too. We’ll be focused on creating an exclusive-like experience from the moment you walk in to the studio. Just as we limit the number of weddings we book each year so that we can spend more time with each of our couples leading up to the wedding, our portrait studio will operate the same way. We’ll limit the number of portrait sessions we schedule each month so that we can spend as much time as possible preparing you for the session, talking about exactly what you’re interested in and then afterwards helping you make the best selections from your session.

There’s only one problem…we need a name for our new studio! We will still be Tirado Photography but we’d like a new, unique name just for all of our portrait sessions. We’ve been brainstorming like mad and have a few ideas up our sleeve but then suddenly realized how appropriate (and fun!) it would be to have our clients and faithful blog readers help us find the perfect name. You know us best and we know we have a lot of creative readers out there, so now we need your help!

Here’s what you should know about what we’re looking for: something unique, fresh, stylish and chic, and something that suits our personalities and style. It doesn’t need to have the name “Tirado” in it and, actually, we would probably lean towards a name that doesn’t have our name in it. Hey, it doesn’t even have to be in English or an actual word! We’d love to hear your ideas and suggestions! All you need to do is reply to this post below and let us know what it is. You can also email your ideas to us directly at info@tiradophotography.com. You can submit as many suggestions as you’d like and we’ll make our final decision no later than Friday, February 8th (just over a week away!)

Now let’s see how interesting we can make this! If we choose your name, we will be forever grateful to you, will post a whole lot of really nice things about you right here on the blog and we promise to name our first puppy after you. (There are no little babies in our immediate future so the best I can promise you is our puppy). :)

No, but in all seriousness, though, if we select your choice for our new portrait studio name, we’ll enroll you in our Portraits for Life program. This is a new program that we have just launched for a select number of our top clients. Once a family or couple has booked two sessions with us within one year, they are automatically enrolled in our new program which allows them to never have to pay for another session for the rest of their lives. Imagine the possibilities - for the rest of your life (or your children’s lives) you can have as many portrait sessions and as often as you’d like with us and never have to pay for another session fee!

We’re really excited to hear all of the ideas that everyone can come up with and we’ll be sure to post the winning name right here! So get those creative juices flowing and tell us what you think!

Boston’s a great city for a wedding!

We were invited to the launch party for the latest issue of Boston Weddings magazine which was held last week in Harvard Square. We had such a great time and spent the night sampling some great appetizers, drinking some great wine and mixed drinks. (By the way, the best was a signature drink made from champagne, vodka, pomegranate juice and honey - so delicious!!) And it was so nice to get to chat with so many other people who have a role in weddings here in Boston! We were able to see a lot of vendors that we’ve worked with over the past year which was so much fun. Tannise Buford from Event Experience was there - they are a DJ service and here’s an interesting bit of trivia…. They actually were the DJs for our wedding nine years ago!! We loved them then and have been able to work with them at so many other weddings since so it was so nice to catch up. Heather Miniccucci from Simply Inviting weddings was there as well. You might recognize her name from Kaitlin and Mike’s wedding from this past summer and we found out that we’ll be working together again in just a few months so we’re very excited!

But the really cool part of the the party was getting to see so many companies that provide services I had never even thought of before! Since we’re always looking for new great wedding ideas I thought I’d share some of the really unique services we found. We first met Naomi and Jack from Generations Videostories. Well, I first met Naomi and while it’s no secret that I can - on occasion - be considered energetic and excitable, I have nothing on Naomi’s energy level - she was great! They provide videography services for weddings, and even though I know that in itself is not a new concept at all, Naomi and Jack actually provide cinematography services which is a little different. Their final videos actually resemble documentary films from their use of lighting and more candid interviews. I saw a few clips on their website and it really does have a very different and artistic feel to it. I just thought it was a really unique spin off of the traditional video coverage for a wedding!

We also met Angela from Love, Luxe & Bliss. When I asked her what types of items she carries in her store, she told me, “We can provide everything but the wedding dress.” I loved that! So they provide everything invitations, to favors, to bridal party accessories and the best part is that everything can even be customized, too. And then last but definitely not least, I also got to meet Amanda from Event Nanny. She provides professional child care services at your wedding or rehearsal dinner (or any other event, I’m sure). She and her staff all have professional child care experience and they take care of everything - they even bring the toys, activities and supplies. Probably what made me remember her the most, though, was this very cool feature that they have if you want to use them at the wedding. You can either make arrangements for child care at your wedding directly, or you can actually set up an rsvp service and provide your guests with the rsvp information (I’m thinking maybe in your invitation?). Then any of your guests that need child care can just rsvp directly with the Event Nanny and you don’t even have to think about it. I thought that was pretty cool!

Anyways, it was great meeting so many people with great ideas and great services out there, so I thought I’d post about a few that I loved in case it’s helpful for anyone else as well! Happy planning! :)

Another “real” wedding in the Knot Magazine - Boston!

.

.

Don’t forget to pick up a copy of the latest Knot magazine - Boston when you have a moment! Featured inside is one of the weddings we photographed this summer! It’s our very own Kaitlin and Mike who were married at the beautiful Endicott Estate just this past June. (You can see their blog entry again here!)

We were so excited when the magazine contacted us after seeing that blog entry and asked if we’d be interested in allowing them to use some of the photos. Their wedding was absolutely gorgeous with a million perfect details everywhere so it was no surprise that the magazine wanted to publish it! Congrats again Kaitlin and Mike!

Katie and Matt help us finish off 2007 in high style!

Wow what an amazing year it has been and we couldn’t think of a better way to finish it off than by doing what we love best - photographing some amazing moments at another perfect wedding. Katie and Matt gave us exactly that opportunity and we are so incredibly grateful. Their wedding was special for so many reasons… one of which was because they got married exactly one year to the day after Matt proposed to Katie. How perfect is that!

From the moment the day began there were little personal touches everywhere. Even the weather seemed to be cooperating with everything they were wishing for. Outside there was a fresh layer of new fluffy snow - exactly what they had hoped for and it made for an absolutely gorgeous backdrop everywhere we went! Then Matt surprised Katie by having Winston’s deliver some breathtaking roses along with this very special note…

In case that photo is too small to read, Matt wrote: “With all my love for Today and Always. I’ll see you at the end of the aisle.”

Katie and Matt were able to include so many incredibly unique elements to their wedding - including carolers outside of their church in full period clothing. What a perfect way to greet their guests on their way inside! And here are a few more glimpses from the rest of their day:

Their adorable little flower girl trying to pass the time during the full mass ceremony:

And here’s a great moment from their very first dance together as husband and wife:

Katie and Matt also had a kick butt band at their wedding, Night Shift. They were absolutely incredible and they kept the dance floor going all night long. There should be no doubt that everyone - including Katie and Matt - were having the time of lives:

What an absolutely incredible day! We had so much fun with all of their friends, their wedding party and their families as well. We just can’t wait to see everyone again!
