So we’ve known Delizabeth for years now. We met her soon after we got married and have been very close every since. Delizabeth, or “Dee” to her close family and friends, moved to Connecticut several years ago, but that never stopped her from staying in touch with us. Dee is the kind of friend that remembers every important date, calls you just to say “hello” and always listens when you have something to say.
So when Delizabeth met Barney and their relationship began to get serious, she actually called us up to ask if we’d photograph her wedding and we couldn’t say “yes” quickly enough. We asked her what day they were planning on getting married and that’s when she told us that *ahem* she wasn’t exactly engaged just yet.
But they had been talking about it and Dee wanted to be sure that they booked us before our year was booked up. You HAVE to love clients like that!!
So Dee and Barney were planning a small ceremony in New York and needed us to cover their ceremony and portrait session. So we made our way to Patterson, NY on a recent Sunday morning and met Barney nice and early to scope out some great locations for their portrait sessions. Dee and Barney were hoping to meet each other at a beautiful state park nearby, but after a week of rain in that area, the entire park was flooded out and the ground was a little soft and muddy. Not exactly ideal for a beautiful white gown! So instead, we found a new location and helped arrange a private meeting between Dee and Barney. We absolutely LOVE when couples decide to see each other before the ceremony. It’s such a beautifully emotional moment and it’s wonderful for our couples to be able to enjoy it privately while Rene and I capture it from further away. Here’s how the scene unfolded with Dee and Barney…
Barney and Rene waited for Dee and I to arrive and finally, Barney could hear Dee’s footsteps on the path behind him:

And the honest, unprompted, completely beautiful reaction….

After spending a few minutes together, we began to walk towards the location we had picked out earlier for portraits. Dee and Barney scheduled nearly two hours for their own portraits and for their family and wedding party portraits as well and it really meant that we were able to have fun together and let everyone relax and enjoy their time alone together. We began with Dee and Barney’s personal portrait session and had an amazing time together! They are so beautiful and comfortable with each other and trusted us completely – it made it so much fun to photograph them:

While taking that last photo, I looked over Rene’s shoulder and realized that their families were spying on us! I made sure to preserve the evidence to be used at a later date, no doubt.

On to another location…with no windows?

We’ve known Dee’s family for years as well and being able to photograph their great relationship together was very special for us. And after meeting Barney’s family, we quickly fell in love with them, too:

And because time flies when you’re having fun, we soon found ourselves quickly making our way to the ceremony – right on time. I loved this image of Dee running up the stairs to make it on time…

Dee and Barney, you are such a beautiful couple and it was such an honor for us to be there with you all the way in New York. We can’t wait to see all of the wonderful things you accomplish together!
