Our engagement sessions are really casual and we generally don’t find one spot for our sessions. The best we can usually do is pick a starting point for our sessions and then make no promises for where we’ll end up.

So we picked a starting location in downtown Boston to met Alaina and John and even before we made our way to the Park Plaza, we had to stop along the way, including for this gorgeous portrait of a breathtaking Alaina (*love* that dress, girl!!):

From there, we just walked everywhere (with Alaina in heels!) and got some amazing images and had a TON of fun together. Here are some of our favorites:

We’re working on some Save the Date cards for them right now and counting the months until the wedding! We can’t wait to see you guys again very soon….

I always loved that nursery rhyme. Even growing up…it made me so happy that I was a little girl. Because I was just so relieved that I was made of sugar and not snails.

As a pediatrician, Maria gets to see all of the cute things that little boys and girls are made of. And as she was a little girl once, too, there’s no doubt she is most definitely made up of sugar and a little bit of spice, too. She seriously has this sweet, lovable disposition and then can just as quickly turn on the silliness – especially when Chris gets her going.

Chris is also a doctor and if they say that laughter is good for the soul, then Chris definitely knows how to treat the whole person. He’s funny and warm and is the first one to never take anything too seriously.

We found out really quickly, that if we found a nice little spot with gorgeous light and just left Maria and Chris alone for a few minutes, they’d soon start playfully teasing each other and laughing – those really good, start at the bottom of your belly laughs, too. I think they’ve found the secret to a wonderfully close, long lasting relationship…watching them together makes me wish that kind of unabashed glee on every couple out there.

So we met them recently in Rockport, MA for their engagement session. Rockport is a quaint little town on the rocky coast just north of Boston. And it also happens to be one of their favorite little towns to hang out in. After being rained out for our first few scheduled dates, we finally seized the day and had the most amazing afternoon complete with beautiful sunset and warm summer temperatures.

Here are just a few of our favorites, and I hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed taking them!!

Once they knew their date and venue was set in stone they could breathe a little more easily and they thought it would be the perfect time to start thinking about their engagement session. We were so excited about photographing them because we know Kate and Jesse from Lauren and Brian’s wedding almost two years ago and we had such a blast together.

So we picked a date for Kate and Jesse to come into the studio and one of the first things Kate announced when she walked in was just how nervous she was. She told us how worried she was that she wouldn’t be able to look good in any of the photos because she was so nervous. But I’ll tell you what…we’ve never, ever found anyone that hasn’t been able to relax, have fun and look amazing at a portrait session. Sometimes it might take a little longer for some people to warm up and be comfortable in front of the camera, but that little switch in your hed always clicks over. And what’s even more hysterical is that Kate and Jesse ROCKED the session. We all took our time and laughed and joked around and you would seriously never know for a second that Kate was ever nervous. Jesse also looks like he just stepped out of Men’s Vogue and so between the two of them, we had such a blast photographing them. Here’s a sneak peek at our session!

Just a completely random side thought. And maybe because I’m trying really hard to get back into a workout routine… But how amazingly toned are Kate’s arms?? They look fabulous:

Only five more months until we get to have fun again at their wedding!! We are so unbelievably excited and can’t wait to see you guys again soon!

We couldn’t wait to get together with Anita and Rowan for their engagement session and it was great to just be able to hang around with them as we walked around the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Boston exploring all of the little side streets. Anita and Rowan are so in love and so much fun to be around – I feel like we laughed our way through the entire session. There’s even an “outtake” that Rene took of me with Anita and Rowan where we were all in the middle of a giant belly laugh. I wish I could remember what we were laughing at, but the truth is we had fun like that all afternoon, so I have no idea what it was all about. I’d even post that outtake if it weren’t for the fact that my laugh was SO big that you could practically see my molars.

Choosing just a few “teasers” for the blog was nearly impossible. There were so many different locations that we found together that I didn’t know what to post! But here’s a peek at our fun times… Anita is so gorgeous and has the most beautiful smile. We couldn’t help wanting to show it off. Almost makes you wish you could bottle this up, doesn’t it??

Rowan was wearing this very cool military-style overcoat that we absolutely loved! We found a little bit of color while we were walking around and we made it all about him…

Anita and Rowan’s wedding is going to be an incredibly elegant evening wedding here in the city, so be sure to watch for a sneak peek of their wedding in just a few more weeks!

We’ve known Meredith for a few years now and it’s actually a pretty amazing story of how we’ve gotten to know them so well. Meredith has a very close network of friends and over the past few years we’ve been able to photograph many of their weddings. We’ve photographed so many of their friends’ weddings, that it truly feels as though all of them are family to us now. So when Meredith called us at the beginning of the year to tell us that she was engaged to Richie, we felt as though one of our own best friends were getting married!

Meredith and Richie will be getting married in Providence, RI next summer (that’s where they both went to school), but they actually live in New York City. So when Rene and I were making plans to spend some time there, the first thing I did was give Meredith a call to see if they might like to have their engagement session right in their own neighborhood. They were so excited and so we made plans to meet up while we were in town.

Meredith and Richie in the very cool neighborhood of TriBeCa. Rene and I just love the entire SoHo/TriBeCa/Greenwich Village area and we knew it would be the perfect location and we literally spent all morning just walking the streets of their neighborhood during their session. It was so much fun to have Meredith and Richie point out their favorite restaurants, their favorite bar, and even the route they take to work every day. We had such an amazing time together and had a fabulous session on top of it all:

I love this next image… Richie just wouldn’t tell us what he said to Meredith at this very moment, but whatever it was still makes me laugh whenever I see this image.

We stopped over at one of their favorite restaurants, which just happened to be on a cobblestone street, with a fabulous Vespa out front. All of the elements coming together perfectly for a couple that deserves nothing but the best…

These guys are so fabulous to photograph – you get the sense that they would be just as comfortable hanging out with you in the local pub or as the models on the pages of a magazine. Just wait until you see what kind of magic the four of us create together at their wedding in July!

Since Danielle and Tarik don’t live here, we planned their session on a weekend they were going to be visiting anyways. They were trying to think of a unique location for their engagement session and finally settled on the beautiful Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence, RI. We focused more on the “park” part instead of the “zoo” part. The grounds at the Roger Williams Park Zoo are just beautiful and so incredibly scenic. We walked around all afternoon soaking in the sun, the beautiful leaves and having lots of fun…

Danielle and Tarik laugh so much together – they’re such an adorable couple!

They actually left for Virginia right after our session and finally made it home (loooong drive!). We are so looking forward seeing them again and even better, hanging out with them at the wedding in exactly one year!

We had a great time walking through Faneuil Hall and then along the waterfront through Columbus Park. It was such a beautiful day and the entire city was just bustling with people. So I give so much credit to adorably shy Sharon who had no problem getting warmed up while the crowds gathered to stare at this gorgeous couple. (I can’t even tell you how many people would stop and ask if this was a shoot for a magazine! No surprise after seeing these two models!)

We started by taking advantage of all of the bright colors and fun atmosphere around Faneuil Hall:

And then made our way across the street to use all of the great backdrops along the waterfront:

We are (literally!) counting the days until Sharon and Chris’ wedding!! They’re definitely going burn up the blog again when it’s time to post their wedding!

Sometimes we get our couples in some crazy situations!

But the end result was so worth it!! (And I love, love, love Kristen’s gorgeous eyes!)

We then headed over to Bearskin Neck just as the sun was setting to have fun with some more great locations. How could we not use that classic Rockport motif especially when it was bathed in that beautiful warm sunset glow?

And then i had a little fun myself with some off camera flash action. Kristen and Chris were such fabulous models – looking gorgeous while posing on a rickety stack of lobster traps:

After an amazing session we then enjoyed the best dinner right there on Bearskin Neck overlooking the ocean and the most amazing sunset. Kristen’s cousin and her husband joined us and we just had the best evening. After such a fabulous session, we are so excited for their wedding next summer!

They live in the city, so an engagement session incorporating Boston scenes was just so appropriate! So we met them on the Esplanade just as the sun was setting and had the best time walking along the water and enjoying the gorgeous weather!

One of the best things about photographing Rebecca and Brian is capturing how much they love to laugh together. It was so awesome!

I love, love Rebecca’s laugh so much. I have to admit it’s hard for me to keep my camera steady because her giggle makes me laugh whenever I’m photographing her!

And just as the last little bits of sun dropped below the horizon…
