Audrey’s portrait session - a year in the making!

There’s absolutely nothing that we love more than to watch our clients’ and friends’ lives grow and change. We first met Kristin and Charlie back in 2003 when they were first engaged to talk about their wedding. They tied the knot in September of 2004 with a gorgeous ceremony in the North End and a reception at the beautiful Colonnade hotel in downtown Boston. As a matter of fact, if you scroll to the top of this page, that’s Kristin and Charlie walking away as we wrapped up their portrait session on the Boston waterfront at sunset!

Well, here we are three and a half years later and we now get to meet their beautiful baby girl, Audrey. Kristin emailed me when Audrey was still an infant so that we could set up a time for her one year portrait session. And this is one of the reasons why I love Kristin so much. We literally planned a session months in advance because even though the wedding is over, Kristin can’t help but be so meticulously organized! Don’t you know it, though…. after months and months of waiting, our portrait date arrived and it was pouring rain. Not at all what they wanted for a portrait session in the Public Gardens! But we quickly rescheduled and at long last we were able to meet Audrey just a couple of weeks after her one year birthday!

We had such a blast walking through the park and just catching up with each other again. And we completely fell in love with Audrey! Neither of us could get enough of her. She has the most adorable toothy smile and had no problems hamming it up with us in front of the camera! Here are some of our favs from her session:

As soon as we walked up to them, Audrey broke out into her adorable grin. Kristin wasn’t even finished getting her dressed but we couldn’t resist starting early when we were faced with a reaction like this:

Audrey’s this close to walking, but in the meantime she’s probably the fastest crawler I’ve ever seen. And determined, too…check out that little tongue:

Most of our parents who are booking a session for the first time will ask us how long a session will last. Our response is always that it truly depends on the baby or toddler and we’ll often go as long as they last. Sometimes that can be as short as 15 minutes and other times it may be as long as 45 minutes or an hour. We just take our cues from the babies themselves. What cues, you ask? Here’s a pretty good indication that we should probably start wrapping it up…

I just can’t even tell you how much we loved getting to meet Audrey. Kristin and Charlie are truly a special couple to us and we were so beyond excited to know they were pregnant and to finally meet their beautiful baby girl. We just can’t wait to see you all again soon!

A baby session with a toothy grin (bonus!)

Meet Jack who just turned nine months old! Babies change so quickly during their first year, and a perfect way to always remember these precious early months can be with a portrait session. For example, Jack is not only getting bigger and bigger every day, but he’s also finding new teeth as well! There was no hiding those adorable little baby teeth coming in because Jack is definitely a smiley baby. And when he smiles, he smiles. This is no little smirk that we’re talking about, these are great grins and with those little baby teeth showing right through, it’s enough to just make you want to melt. We spent a fantastic afternoon with Jack and had a ton of fun getting him to laugh at us. The results were some great portraits showing off his happy personality.

Even though he’s not crawling just yet - Jack’s definitely this close to becoming mobile. He’s pulling himself up without any problems and now just needs that forward momentum. Any day now!!

Two times the fun!

What do you get when you take an adorable nine month old little boy and his spunky four year old sister and put them in a studio with lots of room to run around and play? You get a rocking good afternoon! We did just that when Evan came in for his very first portrait session with his big sister, Molly. Evan’s pretty stationary at this point in his life and is completely fascinated with his Spiderman toy and that turned out to be a winning combination for his entire session!

Whereas Molly is a perfect example of a fun, energetic four year old. I love this age because this is when kids are really starting to figure out what they like and what they don’t like and so our session together turned into a really great play date for her! It does mean that you have move quick and stay on your toes, though. Four year olds are quick! I absolutely adore this next portrait of Molly - it shows off her vivacious personality and great smile perfectly. And about .00005 seconds after this was taken she was already across the room and on to the next thing. I couldn’t stop giggling at her antics all afternoon!

We had such a great afternoon together and we can’t wait to see Evan and Molly again!

And baby (to be) makes three!

The studio has been absolutely buzzing with activity over the past few weeks as newborns, toddlers, and even puppies having been setting up appointments for their own personal session with us! Our latest session was held just this past week as we reserved the studio exclusively for Erin and Doug. We dimmed the lights, turned up the music and prepared for their very first maternity session.

It was absolutely gorgeous! Erin and Doug are expecting their first baby in just a few more weeks and asked us to document this moment in their little boy’s life. It was was his very first portrait session! So Erin and Doug arrived and as far as we’re concerned, they could have been coming in for a top magazine shoot - they’re just gorgeous. (Little known fact: Doug was actually recruited by the Ford Modeling Agency in college!) They even brought along their adorable Boston Terrier, Zoe for the session! Now this has to be where phrase “puppy dog eyes” comes from:

Isn’t she just adorable? She is so incredibly well behaved, too. So we just couldn’t resist letting her have her moment in the spotlight as well. And as the rest of the session? Take a peek for yourself and let us know what you think! Taken just as the last few bits of sun was setting:

Erin is just so gorgeous and I love this black and white portrait of her:

And another one we just melted over:

Even Erin and Doug haven’t seen the rest of the portraits from their session yet! They’ll be coming in soon for their viewing session and we can’t wait to show them. But truth be told, we’re even more excited for their brand new little boy to arrive very soon.

Congrats Erin and Doug! We’re just so happy for you!

Precious little newborns

Meet the newest addition to Lauren and Mike’s family - beautiful Kyla! Lauren had called us about a month ago (before Kyla was even born!) to set up a newborn session for her. She wanted to be sure that everything was scheduled so they could bring her right in after the big day. But of course, when you’re waiting to be born, I suppose it really doesn’t matter how organized your mom is. So when Kyla decided she was going to arrive a couple of weeks early we just moved our session date right up to accommodate!

And so Lauren and Mike came in this week with beautiful little Kyla and her big brother Rowan who is already 2 years old and we spent a glorious morning photographing all four of them together in the studio. Kyla was just two weeks old and she was absolute perfect. The best time for a newborn session is actually within the first two weeks after they’re born since this is when they’re still very relaxed and so content. And Kyla definitely lived up to that - she almost slept through the entire session!

We thought Kyla might actually sleep through all of the positioning and moving around but just towards the end we got to see those big gorgeous eyes. And don’t you just love that precious baby hair!

And two year old Rowan was so much fun to photograph, too. And he completely stole our hearts! What I loved most was how he’d be running around the studio having a great time and then would suddenly just stop and come back to check on Kyla and give her a little kiss on her head. I wanted to melt each time! Just a perfect big brother. Not to mention those stunning baby blue eyes…

We can’t wait to show Lauren and Mike the rest of the photos at their viewing session this week. And we’re counting the days until we get to spend another morning photographing this gorgeous family!
