What’s in a name? You tell us!

Now that the boxes are all unpacked, the photos are up on the wall and our mini-fridge is stocked with goodies, we can now say that we are officially moved into our new studio!! The timing is perfect because we are ready to kick off the year right. We have a lot of new products and services lined up and lots of great ideas that we just can’t wait to tell everyone about!

Our first big announcement is the launch of our new boutique portrait studio! Until now, we have focused primarily on photographing weddings and couples. Over the years, though, we’ve been photographing more and more newborns, toddlers and entire families and, well, I’m not too embarrassed to admit that I have completely fallen in love with portrait work. Many of you already know the story behind how we actually became wedding photographers. Rene has always been a photography buff and pursued the artistic side of photography for years. About nine years ago, our friends started getting married and asked Rene to photograph their wedding, but Rene was super reluctant because he definitely didn’t want to become one of those stereotypical wedding photographers with the stale poses week after week. He thought it would be an artist’s nightmare. But our friends were persistent and eventually Rene agreed on one condition - that they would let him photograph their weddings as he envisioned it. No stale poses and they had to be open to some fun ideas. They agreed…and the rest is history!

That is almost how we launched the portrait side of our studio as well. Many of our couples were starting families after their weddings and would ask us to photograph their newborns and we’d then follow these gorgeous kids as they grew up. Instead of providing very formal, traditional portraits we had a more hands-on approach. We loved to spend more time with our families and children and playing with them so that we could photograph them actually having fun together and then be able to provide some great natural and beautiful portraits. More and more requests starting pouring in and so when we finally moved into our cool space at the end of last year, we thought it would be the perfect time to pursue another dream of ours and officially launch a boutique portrait studio!

Photographing weddings is still going to be a very important part of our lives (we’re too addicted to weddings to stop!) but now we’ll also be spending some time creating a similar experience for families and kids, too. We’ll be focused on creating an exclusive-like experience from the moment you walk in to the studio. Just as we limit the number of weddings we book each year so that we can spend more time with each of our couples leading up to the wedding, our portrait studio will operate the same way. We’ll limit the number of portrait sessions we schedule each month so that we can spend as much time as possible preparing you for the session, talking about exactly what you’re interested in and then afterwards helping you make the best selections from your session.

There’s only one problem…we need a name for our new studio! We will still be Tirado Photography but we’d like a new, unique name just for all of our portrait sessions. We’ve been brainstorming like mad and have a few ideas up our sleeve but then suddenly realized how appropriate (and fun!) it would be to have our clients and faithful blog readers help us find the perfect name. You know us best and we know we have a lot of creative readers out there, so now we need your help!

Here’s what you should know about what we’re looking for: something unique, fresh, stylish and chic, and something that suits our personalities and style. It doesn’t need to have the name “Tirado” in it and, actually, we would probably lean towards a name that doesn’t have our name in it. Hey, it doesn’t even have to be in English or an actual word! We’d love to hear your ideas and suggestions! All you need to do is reply to this post below and let us know what it is. You can also email your ideas to us directly at info@tiradophotography.com. You can submit as many suggestions as you’d like and we’ll make our final decision no later than Friday, February 8th (just over a week away!)

Now let’s see how interesting we can make this! If we choose your name, we will be forever grateful to you, will post a whole lot of really nice things about you right here on the blog and we promise to name our first puppy after you. (There are no little babies in our immediate future so the best I can promise you is our puppy). :)

No, but in all seriousness, though, if we select your choice for our new portrait studio name, we’ll enroll you in our Portraits for Life program. This is a new program that we have just launched for a select number of our top clients. Once a family or couple has booked two sessions with us within one year, they are automatically enrolled in our new program which allows them to never have to pay for another session for the rest of their lives. Imagine the possibilities - for the rest of your life (or your children’s lives) you can have as many portrait sessions and as often as you’d like with us and never have to pay for another session fee!

We’re really excited to hear all of the ideas that everyone can come up with and we’ll be sure to post the winning name right here! So get those creative juices flowing and tell us what you think!

Two votes for Abrazo Studio so far!!!
I have to say, I also love the 1826 idea.
P.S. The video does look great ; )

The first permanent photograph was an image produced in 1826 by the French inventor Nicéphore Niépce. So the name could in fact be “Studio 1826″. This would also reflect and corrispond the 1st permanant photographs by clients of Tirado Photography in this studio.
“Studio 1826″ is not going to be just a photo studio, but rather, would continue to expand photography to a much higher artform which has in fact been already revealed by Tirado photography in past projects.

Kairos — Kairos Lounge or Room

    Main Entry: defining moment

    Part of Speech: noun

    Definition: very crucial
    moment
“each photo of a person is only a moment in time and not a reflection of ones soul.”

I’ve got a few ideas here, but I have to second the proposed name of Abrazo (as I was also trying to think of the word Hugs in other languages)…its so fitting.

    Here are my others-

Candela- def: basic SI unit of luminous intensity (light) :-)

Lux- def: the unit of illumination (again light)

AfterImage- def: a visual sensation that persists after the stimulus that caused it is not longer present or operative (vision)

I can’t wait to hear what you choose.

    “Eternal Memories”

    1-”Photernity” Photo and eternity…get it!!!

    2- Souvenirs éternels
*** french since the inventor of photography was french.

    3- Un Moment à l’éternité

    4- Un moment pour l’éternité
5- Daguerre’s (the 1st inventor of photography from France)

  7. Francis Dumont   -

    “Parisis”

this was the birthplace of the inventor of photography (Daguerre)17 miles just outside Paris France.

    Also, “Daguerre’s” would work nicely.

What a fabulous idea! You will have a whole new audience! Best of luck in the new endeavor.

My suggestion for a name is what I think every time I look at the babies on your blog,”giggles”. That is my pick.
    Regards!
    Mary

    Hi guys…

    Fantastic idea, love it!

    My few suggestions:

“Castizo” it means genuine/true/real, in Spanish. When I think of you guys, genuine is one of the first words to pop in my head.

“Abila” (ah BEE lee ah) it’s a Spanish/Latin name that means skilled expert. Self explanatory!

“Abrazo” Portraits, which means hugs in Spanish which is what you always say! A hug can be love, affection, support, comfort, warmth, joy, happiness, family…everything you guys capture.

    That’s my two cents.

    Good luck!

    Lauren
